That was just a dream.
You must be wondering why getting a bedspace brought so much excitement in my dream, right?
Well, this is the reality and life we live here in the university of first choice and nation's pride, unilag.
It's probably because it's the first choice that a lot of people choose to come here.
Struggling to gain admission is a great war as the cut off marks for most courses are always high.
Sadly, that's not the only war we must fight.
Last week was that time of the session when we fight another major war, GETTING A BEDSPACE.
Lol it's not actual war or fight but these are the best terms to describe the situation.
Let me tell you why I call it war;
The university has only 8000 bedspace and there are about 15000 students struggling to get it.
Peradventure one doesn't get a bedspace, you have to either face lagos traffic while rushing for an 8am class or you must have 'ego' (money) to get a private hostel. The ego I mean is about 250k($442) (P.s. this is one of the cheapest price you can get).
Secondly, imagine these 15000 people trying to access the same website (I.e our student portal which has a low bandwidth) at the same time.
Crazy isn't it?
If you get to the login page, you should give a testimony and if you successfully reserve a space, you're the real goat. Ronaldo no do reach you.
Ehehn let me give you a spicy gist. In this life, fear people oh.
That's how some people will successfully reserve a space of less than 30k and open their mouth waaa that they want to sell it.
It's their bedspace and they can do whatsoever they want. That's not fine because its illegal but let's just let that one slide.
Next thing you hear is these bonafides (people that balloted and got a bedspace) want to sell it for 170k!
Ah! Desire!!! Don't you desire to see God?!!!
How would you get a space of less than 30k and decide to sell it for almost 200k??
Wetin eye no go see? (What will our eyes not see?)
Some people even collect like 50k to squat. You thinking that you've gotten a bed to lay your head. Problem solved right?
Yes, you might have solved a problem but you just jumped into another put filled with rock.
If you decide to squat, I advice you to have aboniki (healing balm) so you can massage your body every morning because you'd be sleeping on the floor. Interesting isn't it? 50k to sleep on the floor.
All these struggles for a roof over our head. Phew.
Well, I'm glad to announce to you that my dream came to pass and I don't have to worry about any of this said and unsaid issues. I got a bedspace (I should throw a party, really)

In conclusion, this is the life we have to live and we've gotten so used to it when it shouldn't be.
We all have different troubles and struggles but you must never get discouraged because of how many people may be running that same race. Focus on yourself and be the champion you can be.
