A Whole New Year Ahead | What About My New Year Resolutions?

Hey everyone.

First off, I'd like to wish you all a happy new year. I'm so glad you guys made it. Man, was last year crazy, huh? Sometimes I felt like I just needed to get away from it all. You know what I mean? Dead ends, anxiety, loss of loved ones, effects from natural disasters, the economy, the sorta terrible 2022 memes 🙂, lack of creativity (and I'm referring to the frequent writer's block too), and so on. What's important though is that we survived through all that and more, and breathing is reason enough to be grateful.

Speaking of writer's block,

I haven't been on Hive in a minute. I'm sure my miniscule following noticed. Well, did ya 💔😐? Anyhoo, I'm back in action and here to stay too. I kinda missed writing. It's something I feel like everyone, even the really really bad writers can do if they just continually do it.

So, I've been away for a while mainly because I got caught up in college prep and a whole bunch of other stuff. Yippee, I'm in college now 😁. I believe that writer's block also played a huge role in my absence. I can remember just being lazy and running out of things to say that I just left. Boy, was Ecency sure pleading with me to be active, huh? 😂😅

ENOUGH OF THAT

Welcome to 2023 you all. I'm sure some of you already pulled out your new year resolutions weeks ago? The gyms are sure going to be making a lot more money than usual this January just like they always do every January. Hehe. I mean come on, let's face it. Most people that decided to work out this year are not going to make it up to March.

I feel that's a problem though, a problem that I have also. It's just so hard to keep to things. That's why I don't normally do new year resolutions. I feel like this year is different though. There are some things I'd really love to accomplish this year, and I'm about to write them down on paper too. To cut things short, here are a few of them:

1. Stop Stuttering.

Yeah, so for the people who haven't met me in the real world before or who haven't actually had a chit-chat with me online, you might not know that I'm actually a really bad speaker. That's why I prefer to put down my words in writing.

So, basically for all my life I've been a stutterer. I feel like my stutter problem has its own U-shaped graphical slope (a graph of 'my age' against 'stutter intensity'). For the sake of all my non-math-acquainted readers, what do I mean by that? Well, when I was a child, I was bad at speaking. Almost all the time, I had to stomp my foot on the ground a little bit to get those vowels out.

What accompanied that was the shutting of my two eyes and the frequent use of add-on's like 'see' and 'em' between words. When I was eleven, there was a time at school when I wanted to say 'permanent stain.' A few of my friends made fun of me for quite a long time after I pronounced it as 'peeeeeeeeeeermanent stain.' It really brought my self-confidence down and made me not to speak much to people at school.

Then came this short period of my life. This was when I was between the ages of 12 to 17. I noticed a really encouraging decrease in my stuttering and I was more confident around people. Then came last year when I was 17 (I'm 18 now). The stuttering has gotten so bad that I find it hard to even order something from a stall, or even ask for directions. It's the worst whenever I'm expected to give a really quick answer. It's just like when I was younger, only without the feet stomping.

So what? This year, I'm finally going to conquer this stutter problem. There are a lot of self-therapy tips out there on the internet prescribed by professionals. I don't know; have I always just been too lazy to change myself, or did I just become so accustomed to it that I felt like it's just a part of me now? Either way, it's gotta go.

2. Learn French and Spanish.

Okay, I use the term 'learn' loosely here. Of course, there's no way I could become fluent in both these languages in just a year. However, I do know that with just the right amount of work, I would be able to have basic conversation and listening skills in both these languages. I already know a few words in Spanish and much more words in French.

I've also made plans that'll help me achieve this such as following some podcasts that have their languages in French and Spanish, using a few apps like Duolingo, following some social media news pages that report in both languages and much more.

I feel like me wanting to stop stuttering gives me the drive to learn more languages to my arsenal of languages. I already understand two- English and Igbo.

3. Learn Classical Guitar.

To make this short, I love music. I've been playing the piano for almost eight years now and the guitar for almost seven. Yes, it's just been me teaching myself since so I haven't really progressed the way I'm supposed to. I'm actually still not good on the guitar because I've sorta neglected it over the piano. I'm so planning to change that.

I've started learning classical guitar from YouTube tutorials and I'm dead serious about becoming really good this year. I just hope college doesn't make me too preoccupied with other important stuff.

4. Be more committed to the church

Yes, I want to be more committed to the church as a Christian, and that includes learning a lot of history and facts concerning my faith too.

The church is really special, and I'm not just talking about the building or a particular denomination, no. I'm talking about the church worldwide. I must admit, I haven't been doing anything much for the sake of the church and my Lord. This year though is going to be different.

I'm planning on beginning a YouTube channel that's all about promoting Christ to the world. I also plan to join an evangelism group. God help me 🙏🏾.

Another thing I'd like to change is to stop staying on my phone late at night. It's really become an addiction, and I'm stopping it today. I'd also love to be more active on Hive too. My goal is to post at least three times a week. I don't know how well that'll work out for me but stay tuned.

That's all folks. Again, I wish you all a happy new year and better days ahead in this new season. Cheers 🥂.

Let's Go Hive !

Wow. Now another educative article. Hehe. I'm sorry about the minor speech impediment (can I even call it that?) but it is great that you have decided to work towards improving which is admirable. Well done and I hope you realize all you have set for yourself this year. Thank you for posting in the HiveNaija Community.

Thank you so much and happy new year to you ❤️
