The Long Walk Home

in Speak Peace3 years ago

Hello Hivers.... Greetings from my side of the world!

For the past 7 to 8 years, I haven't really had a permanent place I stay.

While in school, it was either Akure Ondo State or Ojodu- Berger, Lagos State.

After graduation, I added one more place which is Ikare, still in Ondo State though.

Currently, I live at a place called Akpatakpiti around FUTA (Federal University of Technology, Akure) South gate. In fact, my place is so far inside the community that it's referred to as west gate area, not South gate anymore.

The only form of transportation from the school gate to my house is via motorcycles.
It's a long walk home if you decide to trek.
Trekking isn't funny though. I only do it when I don't have a choice like when I'm out of cash for transport.

The walk home takes about 20 minutes. The road is in a pretty bad shape and one has to keep moving from left to right to avoid pot holes as well as vehicles and bikes.

The road looks quite lonely because students are on break now due to Industrial action by the Academic Staff Union of universities. Another one of the uncountable mess this country of mine is in🤦‍♀️

The road is untarred, covered in red sand and small rocks. There's no tangible irrigation so whenever it rains, the road becomes a mess.

There are residential buildings and shops on both sides of the road.
The houses in this area are mostly student lodges made up of several room self contain or just single rooms with shared toilets.

While some parts of the road are spoilt from erosion, some parts are actually quite smooth.

Also, there's no proper method of waste management in this area. Some simply throw refuse in the bush while some others burn their refuse outside their houses.

Below is my lodge. Its a students' lodge made up of self contain rooms. My room is somewhere in the middle. Although, I'll be leaving in a few days for the rest of my service year.

The walk home today has been as tiring as always. I'm glad to be home finally.

Time to look for food, freshen up and have some rest.

Thanks for reading through. Your support means more to me than you know.

See you in the next post!!

Are you studying something (at a school of some kind) at the moment @nkechi?

No I'm not... I graduated from the university about a year ago but still stayed close to school.

Will be leaving finally in a few days though.

I hope wherever you're heading that your journey goes well 🤗

Thank you!😘😘

Make government do something about that roam, asap. It's not fair.

Honestly!
There are many roads like this one and even many more worse. People just learn to adapt and move on. It's terrible🤧🤧

And later people living there will come out in masses to cheer any governor that shows up. Crazy!

Because people are wallowing in poverty, that's why they can be easily swayed. The government knows this and they make sure it stays that way.
Pitiful really!😪

Last last you give all of us your house address. If I wan find you now e nor go hard me. You go just hear knock knock for your door.

I could have DM you this but I wish others get enlightened about the dangers of a post like this.

Your post idea is cool, its a quality content for a blog and I enjoyed seeing these places but what you can do for your own security next time is to avoid showing sign post, giving detailed address like community or street names even your hostel/compound name.

Good news is, you're relocating soon. So no psycho, AKA 'fan' can come find you there.

Nice post, in all. Thanks for sharing! You literally took us there.

Lol... I thought about it too.
Thank you!.. Noted!

You need a !PIZZA

Lol... Thanks soooooooo much!😘
