Welcome to the other side of Nigeria..
I woke up early this morning with plans on going to the National Identity Management Commission "Nimc" to get enrolled for the National Identification Number "NIN" which I knew from the onset that I was opting for another day of frustration from the Nigerian Government.
First it was the Taxi driver taking a different rout and dropping me off at a place further from my destination because he was not going my way anymore and I had to trek about a mile before arriving my destination because I had to take short cuts to lessen my stress.
On getting to the enrollment center as usual, the number of people who came for slip collection who had been enrolled about a week ago was so much and they all had that frustrating look on their faces how much more we who came for enrollment..
First a guy walked up to me asking me to bribe my way to a quick service as we call it here "Xpress" I told him I won't do that I was going to follow "Due Process" well even as I write now I'm still here waiting on the cue to get enrolled.
While here I've watched people being chased out, moving from one line to another that seems more quick only to be even more disappointed as you will be sent back to the cue that is stagnant. I really thought it would be a quick ride for the fact that I was doing it in their head office but I was wrong; same old story. "Incompetency"
Talking of Incompetency, why is it that public service which is one of the most active commission in the nation is always the one lagging in service delivery🤔 Personally I feel the lack of proper infrastructure and funding is the primary cause of this incompetency in service delivery.
Finally it took about 5 hours on the cue outside 1 hour inside then finally 10 mins to enroll. So basically for a task of 10mins I spent 6 hours because of bad infrastructure and poor planning...
When I got out, I made 2 new friends and the story of one of them was rather hilarious as he was told they can't attend to him after 5 hours of waiting due to a fire outbreak which actually never happened..
The end of the story would have been boring if not for this part where I almost got beaten by a man who was having a fight and u pulled my camera to capture the moment.
