Greetings Open Mic Family
I think this theme of ""Al Dios Que Adoramos" (The God We Worship)" is well timed considering yesterday was Easter Sunday.
All around us now we are seeing new growth and the rebirth of nature exploding all around us.
I look forward to seeing what songs of worship the community will bring out this week.
For my entry I wanted to sing "Just A Closer Walk With Thee" on my nylon guitar Sundown.
Sundowns been feeling a wee bit neglected since I restrung my Takimine guitar, so I figure she should be the one to sing this song with me.
This song is a traditional gospel and jazz standard song that has been performed by many artists over the years including Willie Nelson and Patsy Cline.
I tried editing in some footage of St Drostans church which I have a clear view of from my rooftop window. The tower of this church was built in the Norman era of the late 12th century, the rest of the church dating to the 17 and 18th centuries.I figured an over rooftops zoom shot of the church would suit the song.
I hope you guys enjoy my version of this wonderful little gospel tune.
"Just A Closer Walk With Thee"
I am weak but Thou art strong;
Jesus, keep me from all wrong;
I'll be satisfied just as long
As I walk, dear lord close to Thee.
Just a closer walk with Thee,
Grant it, Jesus, its my plea,
Daily walking close to Thee,
Let it be, dear Lord, let it be.
Thro' this world of toil and snares,
If I falter, Lord, who cares?
Who with me my burden shares?
None but Thee, dear Lord, none but Thee.
Just a closer walk with Thee,
Grant it, Jesus, its my plea,
Daily walking close to Thee,
Let it be, dear Lord, let it be.
When my feeble life is o'er,
Time for me will be no more;
Guide me gently, safely o'er
To Thy kingdom shore, to Thy shore.
Just a closer walk with Thee,
Grant it, Jesus, its my plea,
Daily walking close to Thee,
Let it be, dear Lord, let it be.
I am weak but Thou art strong;
Jesus, keep me from all wrong;
I'll be satisfied just as long
As I walk, dear lord close to Thee.

I loved the song, it's the first time I listen to it. I've always thought that the sound of the nylon strings guitar is very nice and natural.
Thanks for listening Rosana . Yeah there's something about this guitar capoed on the 8th fret that makes it easy to catch the droning note of the G chord, it worked well for this tune, I'm glad you liked it!

It's not how I would do it in church as an African American woman, but I LIKE THIS TAKE ... new horizons for this song!
