Nacido en la pequeña ciudad de Guacara, Carabobo, Laguna se mudó a una edad temprana con su familia a Maracay, Aragua, donde creció y comenzó su educación. En gran parte autodidacta, se destacó como un talentoso guitarrista y prolífico compositor, mientras creaba un estilo distintivo propio mediante el uso de armonías y ritmos contemporáneos, así como magníficas melodías en sus obras. Autor de importantes valses y joropos venezolanos, también tenía una fuerte predilección por el merengue caraqueño. Algunas de sus canciones más populares son Al poeta, Criollísima, Golosinas criollas, El saltarín, El tramao, Mi merengue, Nathalia, Serenata, S.O.S. y Un heladero con clase, entre otros. Serenata tiene en su particularidad una profundidad armónica que utiliza en una progresión tipo IV-V-I-I.

Luis Laguna (May 1, 1926 - August 1, 1984) was a Venezuelan musician and composer.
