Hello dear Open Mic Comunity
I was so excited about this week's theme "magic". There are lots of songs about magic. Good and bad...but I looked at it from my childrens' perspective and my fond childhood memories.
Walt Disney movies are all about magic, making us believe in fairy tales and happy ever afters. I just had to cover this song.
I asked myself how I could make it more interesting. Everyone knows I can play piano and violin so I wanted to do a bit more.
With the limited equipment I have I decided to record a 3 part harmony, each recording on top of the previous one.
First, I started with recording my piano accompaniment as always.
Piano part:
Secondly I recorded my 2nd violin part while playing the keyboard recording back.
Piano and 2nd Violin:
Thirdly, I recorded the 3rd violin part while playing back the second violin part recording back...does this even make sense?
Piano and 3rd Violin:
And finally, I recorded the melody on top of the last recording with the 3rd violin part.
I do hope you enjoy this. Please let me know what you think and send links to your recordings for me to support you back.

Beautiful melodies and excellent interpretation. Very pretty.😊👏👏👏
Beautiful melody indeed! Thank you for your kind word. I am so happy you enjoyed it.
I am so happy to see that you can accompany yourself and do these complex works. Being able to play several instruments is great. Very good entry @marelizezeeman 👌
Thank you for your kind word. I am so happy you enjoyed it. I love playing duets with myself ;)
Yes, I suppose you do. I would like to do the same with myself, oh well, just piano with piano combination would be possible for my "self duet" 😁
This is very impressive... You have done wonderfully.
Thank you for your kind word. I am so happy you enjoyed it.
Every time you upload, you add yourself playing a few more parts. Pretty soon you'll be a whole orchestra 😁 You've got a wonderful talent there, not just to be able to play the instruments, but to understand how to combine multiple recordings into a single piece.
hahaha! I think its called a One Man Band. Thank you for your kind word. I am so happy you enjoyed it.
Hello . Disney is undoubtedly a reference of magic, especially because it makes us connect with our inner child, your cover with instruments has been beautiful, I loved it. Thank you for participating and may the magic of Christmas shine in your life.
Thank you for your kind word. I am so happy you enjoyed it.
Magical playing for sure!
This is a lovely interpretation of this very famous theme song!
😃👏
Thank you for your kind word. I am so happy you enjoyed it.
Is it the keyboard itself that is doing the recording? Is that a common function?
I would love to learn to play piano/keyboard one day to challenge myself.
Yes @Jasper any keyboard has a record function but then only for the keyboard. I had to record the violin and keyboard with my phone and play it through the keyboard woth an aux cable. That's why the sou d quality is not so clear at the end.
Oh eek. I have a loop pedal for guitar-jack and microphone that I occasionally use.
I would love to experiment with a loop pedal one day!
Yes! There are enough surfer-dude, guitar-and-harmonica playing Jeremy Loops wannabes out there (ahem... cough cough... hahaha!)
I think there is a niche for a female piano and violin loop pedal prodigy instead! Throw in a kazoo to really stand out!
(Actually, I don't think I will ever make my/our act revolve around the loop pedal, but we have one or two songs that work well with it... you obviously need to use a repetitive chord structure, and it helps if it is a proper bouncy jam.)
That's the thing! You are limited to the chord structure...I will start mastering the kazoo first. Not sure how long that's going to take 😆
Probably 20 minutes? Hahaha
