Hey Hive Family! This week's theme is ‘Statement’.

A statement is a definite or clear expression of something in speech or writing. It is to claim something or make a point or to tell the truth. Songs are also statements.
Sometimes, songs are way more powerful than speeches or writing whether it’s songs about love, pain, songs about war, protest, peace. One such song is ‘Zombie’ by the Cranberries.

Leading up to the release of their second album, No Need To Argue, O’Riordan was against the violence caused by the conflict in Northern Ireland, which was making the news headlines on a regular basis. On March 20, 1993, one of two bombs was planted in a dust bin in Warrington city center by Irish republicans. When it off, 12-year-old Tim Parry and three-year-old Jonathan Ball were killed, and also left a lot of people injured. The attack shook the world especially, UK and Ireland. ‘Zombie’ is a protest song written in memory of the victims, especially, the 2 young ones.

For those of you who haven’t heard the original, here’s the link - the song passed 1 billion streams on Youtube in April 2020, last year making them the first Irish band to hit the milestone.

Song Lyrics

Another head hangs lowly
Child is slowly taken
And the violence, caused such silence
Who are we mistaken?

But you see, it's not me
It's not my family
In your head, in your head, they are fighting
With their tanks, and their bombs
And their bombs, and their guns
In your head, in your head they are crying

In your head, in your head
Zombie, zombie, zombie-ie-ie
What's in your head, in your head
Zombie, zombie, zombie-ie-ie, oh

Du, du, du, du
Du, du, du, du
Du, du, du, du
Du, du, du, du

Another mother's breaking
Heart is taking over
When the violence causes silence
We must be mistaken

It's the same old theme
Since nineteen-sixteen
In your head, in your head, they're still fighting
With their tanks, and their bombs
And their bombs, and their guns
In your head, in your head, they are dying

In your head, in your head
Zombie, zombie, zombie-ie-ie
What's in your head, in your head
Zombie, zombie, zombie-ie-ie
Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh, ay, oh, ya ya

Here’s my piano rendition of the song and I hope you like it.
