Straight to the point: after a half-year period absent from Hive, I'm back with updates and info on some new projects and ideas. Go get a fine cup of coffee friends (or are you a tea person), and let's get to it.
Why this half-year absence?
As you can see from my previous posts, last year I was working very enthusiastically to present the Hive blockchain to university students and staff in the context of DeSci (Decentralised Science). I don't want to repeat myself here (see my previous posts), but it is my opinion that Hive is the blockchain best suited to enable DeSci.
However, I had to abandon this endeavour. To make it short, I was formally accused (falsely so, as should be evident to anyone actually paying attention to what I was saying) by students of trying to scam them using "cryptocurrencies". As you can imagine, this came to me as quite a shock, and a big disappointment. Hence my time away to sort things out and re-evaluate my plans and perspectives.
Does that mean I abandoned the Hive DeSci dream?
No. In fact I have many plans as to how to make Hive useful to the preservation and advancement of science. But after what happened last year I decided to change the focus, from the university environment in general and graduation students in particular to other approaches, more focused on scientific content itself. In this specific regard, I'm refining ideas and developing code (very basic code, I should say), and I expect to be able to present them to you in the coming months in 2025. Stay tuned.
Speaking of code...
Yes, speaking of code, these last months I have invested a generous share of time to acquire a better understanding of how the Hive blockchain works and how to broadcast to the chain transactions with customised, more complex operations. This is required to allow for the development of tools and services that, among other uses, will be used in the context of forthcoming Hive Science initiatives.
This also led me to learn more about Hive's more advanced security features. In this regard, I built some tools which I wished existed before I learnt how to do those things on my own. I'm considering the best way to make these tools available to the public, I want this done soon, likely in the coming weeks.
My learning curve would have been much more steep if it weren't for the generous help I received from @pharesim @gtg @arcange and @mahdiyari in the early steps. My gratitude 🙏
What more do you have in store for us?
Glad you asked! I'm VERY enthusiastic to announce that starting next Saturday (February 15) we'll have weekly Financial Education meetings in Três Lagoas (the Brazilian city where I live), which will focus on two main areas:
Proper financial education for young people, with a focus on explaining the existing fiat system and its implications and consequences to the people
Raise awareness and provide technical education so that more people are able to use the Hive blockchain for savings and as means of payment
I genuinely believe this voluntary (not-for-profit) initiative has concrete potential to benefit a lot of people. If everything goes well this year, I expect to see a number of small businesses and service providers in Três Lagoas accepting payments using Hive, especially HBD.
Speaking of HBD, the utility and potential of PayFi (the use of blockchain to enhance in-real-life payments) are crystal-clear, and I think Hive with its instant, free transactions and high-yield USD savings has excellent potential to serve this purpose and benefit from this narrative. HBD has so much potential I think, most of which still untapped.
This initiative was inspired by @thedistriator and @spendhbd , and also by the OffChain Luxembourg initiative by @sorin.cristescu (see @ocln-content). Hopefully we'll be able to kick-start something nice here in Três Lagoas!
