SpendHBD has been the talk of the town lately, and after hearing so much about it, I finally decided to give it a go! Yesterday, thanks to an invitation from @fokusnow, I joined other Hivers at God's Own Supermarket in Aba. I saw the invite on our SpendHBD WhatsApp group:
With the excitement of making my first HBD purchase, I headed to the store with my sister, curious about how it would all work. And what a memorable experience it turned out to be!
Arriving at God's Own Supermarket
After a 25-minute bus ride, we arrived at the supermarket, and the first thing I noticed was how well-organized and inviting it looked. Every shelf was neatly stocked, making it easy to browse and see all the items.

I also got to meet @fokusnow, who is leading the SpendHBD team here in Aba. I admire the work he's doing, connecting Hivers and helping them experience the utility of HBD in real life.
I was thrilled to meet other Hivers who had also come out to shop, including some people I’d only interacted with online before. It was exciting to feel the Hive community come alive right in front of me!
My First HBD Purchase
With my sister @yummycruz1 by my side, I headed for the aisles, ready to make my first purchase. My first item was coffee, it's been a while I had coffee so I decided to buy one using my HBD. The transaction was straightforward.
I simply paid in HBD, and just like that, I went to distriator.com and claimed 15% cashback, uploaded the photos and, I was done! It felt surreal and empowering to use my digital currency in a physical store.
For my second purchase, I decided to try foodstuffs. I got spaghetti and a few groceries for cooking it. This time I got a 20% cash back for it
By then, I was getting the hang of it, and it was clear to me that SpendHBD was opening up a new world of possibilities for Hivers in Nigeria.
The best part of the day was connecting with fellow Hivers. We shared laughs, took pictures, and got to know each other more. Meeting everyone in person added a new dimension to our online community and showed the real-world impact of Hive in Nigeria.
I love this Spend hbd project because it brings about positive reactions as other shoppers get curious about what's going on, ask questions and it'll give shivers opportunity to explain hive and it's currency to them. And this will serve as a huge step forward for crypto adoption in our local area!
SpendHBD isn’t just a convenient way to shop—it’s a powerful way to bring the Hive community together and demonstrate the value of HBD. From meeting @fokusnow and other Hivers to making my first-ever HBD purchases, every part of the day was a new and exciting experience. I’m already looking forward to the next SpendHBD event and the chance to see even more Hivers join in.

That was impressive. Hive making its visibility in Nigeria. That's Abia state right? I hope SpendHBD would be across other states in Nigeria so we can be accessible to such opportunity too.
