Recap of Hive's First Meetup of the Year in Nigeria: A Day of Learning, Networking, and Fun

in SpendHBD25 days ago (edited)

The first hive meetup of the year in Nigeria was one of the most anticipated events for hivers in Nigeria. It was initially scheduled to take place on March 29th, but due to some challenges, we had to reschedule twice before finally settling on April 1st. Though the delays were frustrating, they did not reduce the excitement. They made us even more eager to make it a successful and memorable event.

The meetup was a chance for Hive users in Nigeria to come together, share knowledge and challenges, encourage one another, and have fun. Preparing for it took a lot of effort and teamwork.

Since we were hosting the event at the Hive Training Center in Aba, I made sure to clean the venue, rearrange the space, and ensure that everything was in good condition. @fokusnow took care of producing custom hive-branded t-shirts, notebooks, and mugs, which were meant to be a gift for the attendees.

He also worked on designing a beautiful hive banner to be displayed at the venue.

To ensure a good turnout, the team also actively promoted the meetup by creating awareness both online and offline. We shared flyers across different social media platforms, put out word on the street, and also encouraged members to attend and bring along their friends.

After weeks of planning and preparation, the much-anticipated day finally came, April 1st. The Hive training center in Aba was set, the banners were up, and everything was ready to welcome guests.

One of the biggest highlights of the day was the arrival of @ijelady.

She travelled from Uyo to join us in Aba for the meetup. Surprisingly, she was the second person to arrive, minutes after @debbydaniels arrived. As time went on, other members started showing up, including some new faces. It was exciting to see new people join in and also connect with old members again.

Once everyone was settled, it was time to begin the main event.

"The power of Consistency on Hive." She explained that one of the biggest factors that determine success on Hive is showing up every day and staying active. The first speaker of the day was @luchyl. She spoke on a very important topic

Her speech felt more like a prep talk, where she encouraged everyone to set small, achievable goals, such as

  1. Posting at least three times a week,
  2. Making quality comments on five posts a day,
  3. Regularly engaging with communities and friends.

She emphasized that these small habits, when done consistently, can lead to long-term growth on the Hive blockchain.

"little drops." Many people believe that only long, detailed posts matter. But she made us understand that short and simple posts can also have a big impact. She gave an example of how: posting daily updates about your life can keep you active on Hive, sharing your thoughts in a few sentences can still get engagement.Next, @ijelady gave a very insightful talk on microblogging on Hive. She introduced the concept of

She also shared some practical tips on how to use LeoThreads and ecency waves to post short content and stay engaged. Her session was an eye-opener for many people who had been struggling to find time for long-form posting

After Ijelady's session, Fokusnow talked about engagement and promotion. Many people focus on creating content but forget that engagement is what builds relationships and attracts attention to their content.
He shared simple but effective strategies for increasing engagement such as leaving meaningful comments on other people's posts and replying to comments on your posts.

In addition to engagement within Hive, he also stressed the importance of promoting Hive content on web2 platforms like Twitter (X) and Facebook. He explained that sharing our blog links and microblogs on these platforms could help bring in new users and grow the hive community.

After the insightful sessions, we had some refreshments. And to make the atmosphere even livelier, @bummblebee turned up the heat with some cool music. The energy in the room was at a hundred, and one level. We danced, laughed, and just enjoyed the moment. It was the perfect way to unwind after the prep talks.

Of course, we couldn't just leave without taking lots of pictures; everyone made sure to capture beautiful moments, creating memories that would last forever.

At the end of the event, Fokusnow gave out hive-branded mugs and notebooks to everyone as a gift. It was a way to say "thank you" to everyone who attended

Even though we faced challenges and had to reschedule twice, the first-ever hive meetup of the year in Nigeria turned out to be a huge success. It brought together old and new hive members, giving us the chance to learn, connect, and have fun. This meetup is just the beginning, more hive events will come. If you missed this one, make sure to join us next time. It will be even bigger, better, and more exciting.
