The Sooners, the better @trostparadox
Thanks for the shoutout.
The "Sooners" were, of course, cheaters during the Oklahoma Land Run (see explanations here and here).
I am in Stillwater, though, home of Oklahoma State University and the Cowboys, who defeated the Sooners 27-24 a couple weeks ago, in the possibly-final Bedlam football game (due to the fact that the Sooners are leaving the Big XII conference at the end of this season and joining the SEC).
In sixth grade of elementary school (1980 something) a boy from Tulsa transferred to our school. Our teacher somehow ended up calling him "Okie from Muskogee". That wasn't nice. He had a name. I became friends with him and learned there was a thing called College football and it was worth watching. Before that I thought only the Bears were worth watching. I was wrong. Watching college football made Thanksgiving more interesting.
Maybe it is a already too late for the Sooners this year, but they might be better off in the South East Conference. Naming a team "Sooners" is kind of funny, but Oklahoma's history is not so funny. Enjoy the rest of 2024. Things have quieted down here and for a couple weeks I expect things will be pretty good. I didn't check the links above, but will in a few hours.
