Projects. Projects. So Many Projects

These days I am less active on Hive. The reason is the more workload in real life. Along with several other tasks, the academic activities of my son have engaged me so much.

A couple of weeks ago an unrealistic number of project assignments were given to him. Completing them in the given time was not a possibility for him, especially during the time when schools were open and exams were around the corner.

Therefore, I stepped in to prepare most of his projects myself so he could invest his time in preparing for the presentation of those projects.

Project for English Grammar

The topic of the project was to prepare a lap book on any three English grammar topics included in the course.

I chose preposition of place and movement, countable and uncountable nouns, and Antonyms and Synonyms.

Preparing this lap book took me more than six hours while my son helped pasting the pictures. I had got the relevant images printed beforehand in accordance with the previously conceived ideas

I began the work with a different mental map but as I started, more ideas started flowing and I kept on integrating the appealing ones.

I have prepared a detailed video of the project showing all the elements of the lap book. I am waiting for the 3speak to return, or I will upload the video on YouTube; and will explain the various elements of the lap book in a separate post.

Project for Social Studies

The task for this project was also to prepare a lap book on the topic “Different Types of Maps".

I had a tough time deciding for the content of this project. I looked for various types of maps on websites where I found overlapping information with a range of categories. I got confused, unable to decide which categories I should take for the task at hand.

My brother advised me to stick to the categories that were mentioned in the son's text book. The idea seemed logical. However, in his text book, there was only one line of statement for describing each category. So I jotted down some other points that need not be too difficulty for him to understand.

After deciding the content, I looked for some relevant images of map and got them printed. It was only then I could decide which shape and size of smaller books I was going to prepare, as after placing the printed images I got the clear picture of the space available.

Here 👇 is the final product.

It is not exactly the same that was initially in my mind. Some of the decorations ideas just hit me when I was about to finish the work. And then..... I called for more work for me. !LOLZ.

This project also deserves detailed explanation, so I hope to create a separate post about it.

Project for Islamiat

The task for this project was to prepare an infographic chart on the topic “Different Stages of Prophet Abraham's Life”.

I first jotted down some points and divided them into exclusive categories. Then I edited the points and shortened them to fit in the info graph.

I had categorised the life events into six major event so I decided to make the central diagram into hexagon shape (yeah, the shape of Hive 😍) branching out into six rectangles

Here is the final product

Each category further divided into three more points of explanation, except one which had four points.

I made a wrong decision of choosing orange coloured card sheet for the task. Several marker colours were not working fine on it. To make the writing clear, I had to over write.

To make each category easily distinguishable, I used colour pencils to colour the boxes. I coloured each major category and its branches with the same colour. Moreover I also allotted numbers to all the branches so that info graph might become clearer and understandable.

Project for Mathematics

For the Maths project there was a choice of vast array of topics being taught in the course. We decide to prepare the project on the topic “Different Types of Angles"

Using card sheets we made two circles, one sliding over the other representing different types of angles.

My son loved this product too much and played with it like a toy.

I took images of several steps involved in the making process. I hope to create a detailed tutorial post on this too. 😀

Project for Arts

It is a colourful tree made with paper.

Most part of this creation was done by my sons and their cousin. I only facilitated them by cutting the strips of paper.

My son had a hard time rolling the paper around itself because we didn’t have barbecue stick available to accomplish the task. Honestly, I was also unable to roll the paper tightly enough to create the same effect as created by barbecue stick.

Then my nephew and younger son appeared in the room. My 8 years old nephew remarked “What kind of an easy task you are doing!”. I told him if it was that easy he should try doing it for us.

To my surprise, he folded the paper quickly and splendidly. Then my younger one tried and he also did an excellent job. I had to admit Kids are amazing. Aren’t they?

I asked them to help my elder son. They agreed delightfully. While both the younger boys kept on rolling the papers, the elder one pasted them. This way the art piece was done.

Making these projects I reminded of my student life when I worked with utmost dedication.
While I enjoyed creating these assignments, it disturbed my routine a lot. I had to leave some other important tasks to get done with these projects.
It was unfair from the school to assign that much work simultaneously, amidst other tests and presentations. I complained the school administration about this attitude. They assured that they would plan work better in the next semester, but this time there was no option except to get these tasks done.

Thankfully, we were able to finish them on time without the arrival of any undesirable circumstances.

Thanks for coming this far.
Till next time.....
Stay blessed

I am waiting for the 3speak to return

It has been weeks already, so I wouldn't hold your breath.
This seems like project overload and no wonder you had to help. But I wonder how much children actually learn when they are bombarded with so much that their parents do the work.
I am glad you all showed teamwork though and got it all done Amber.

But I wonder how much children actually learn when they are bombarded with so much that their parents do the work.

Ideally the assignments should be spread over the semester so the children could make the best out of them. This bombardment is a result of mismanagement from school administration. Certainly student learnt nothing out of them. It was like a space filled so the marks could be given.

I wondered how those children would have managed whose mothers were on employment. There was no way to have enough time to accomplish these tasks in the given time.

Thanks for dropping by, Tengo. Long time. Hope you are doing well.
