More Junk .. (or Treasures)
Jumping back to a subject I posted about seventeen days ago.. Wow how time flies! Anyhow getting back to dumpster diving. Something else I recently found in several boxes of stuff our guys were tossing in the dumpster the other day. Or I suppose I should say "Some Things" or "Many Things". I pulled out a bunch of stuff and I am just beginning to go through it all. Let's say the reward was not as great as finding that ten karat gold stockpile last time but it is still interesting to see what you come across. I still found plenty of things I can turn around and sell for a little extra spending cash which I can then roll into some part of my investment strategy. Every little bit helps.
Except today I am going to show you a box lid full of miscellaneous things. None of them worth any great monetary value, the value more comes from remembering some of these trinkets and the memories they bring back. Also I have seen a few items I had no idea existed. Just a ton of random things that are interesting to look through.
I will share several photos so you get an idea of what I found .. In a couple of old musty plastic Ziploc bags. For starters a couple of pennies and some from the Franklin Institute that have been flattened out and stamped. A 1979 Susan B Anthony dollar coin, a bunch of Avon items, some dice and puzzle pieces.
A handful of Cross pens, pencils and an X-Acto knife scalpel. Also found a couple of high pro motors, an Easter egg with a small dog in it (yeah.. A little plastic doggy - hehehe) and a used pack of light bulbs.
A pair of erasers, some sort of computer chip made in Taiwan, a dreidel. A small slinky that looks like it came from a bubblegum machine. A bunch of keys and magnets. A pencil sharpener with a dinosaur on it. (I know you stackers see that Canadian silver.. I'm getting to that.)
I also found an Eisenhower dollar the commemorative edition - not silver.
There was a small box with a bunch of tie tacks in it as well as two pearls in a plastic bag with a piece of paper that looks like possibly Chinese or Japanese writing on it. I thoroughly inspected the jewelry items and found nothing precious.
I found a rather large coin from 1983 that says it is from Resorts International. A one dollar token probably used for gambling. Again out of my scope of knowledge. Looks like gold but I assure you it is not. Bummer.
One Piece Of Silver ..
All was not lost though.. Out of all these miscellaneous interesting items I did find a Canadian silver quarter. It is quite worn but I was able to kind of hold it at an angle in the light and see it was from 1955. I know there is some silver in that. I will have to look it up because I cannot remember the percentage but I am thinking it is probably on the lower side.
Not sure if there is anything else here that I can sell independently and make a profit after shipping but I will look into these items a little bit further. It may be just something I sell as a junk drawer lot on eBay or something like that. Maybe I get five bucks!
Huxley's Finds ..
Huxley was introduced to a couple of annoying finds .. Found within the pile of stuff. A brightly colored pen that when shaken makes the sound of a cow and a harmonica.
The pen he hates and is a little scared of, and I do not blame him. No pen should moo like a cow. The harmonica he actually likes, sort of. I guess he gets excited and runs in circles when daddy plays it. We will take that as a win I suppose. At least entertaining for us to watch. I took his photo with them, and he eventually laid his head down and fell asleep waiting for me to torture him with the noise once more.

Funnily enough, I've just messaged someone about dumpster diving. I've been watching a few Youtube videos where people look in their local shop's refuse bin. I can't believe what the shops just throw away, instead of perhaps giving it to charity. We are such a throwaway society.
Amen to that. Finding a good charity or even repurposing is a good, environmentally friendly way of keeping things out of the landfill. Sometimes my finds are financially beneficial and other times just historically interesting. I don't travel around looking in dumpsters, but at work they sometimes have to clean out a basement, attic or crawlspace and need to toss out junk. I like searching through it when time allows.
Oh, me too. I love it when someone in my village has a skip. 😁

The closest thing I can get to dumster diving is a very good branch of the SPCA (an animal welfare organization). They do have various little stores where one finds real treasures for next to nothing.
I run a bnB and had quite a collection of lost property. I eventually throw the useless stuff out if guests don't respond when I let them know - like one sock, or one shoe, but many cell phone chargers, which come in handy when new guests leave theirs at home!

That harmonica was one of the first things that caught my attention! Very cool! I remember a time when everyone thought the Susan B Anthony coins were going to make them millionaires one day. Kind of similar to those two dollar bills!
