New Vanda Orchid Blooms and New Silver
This past week brought a delightful blend of beauty and treasure into our lives—just in time for the Thanksgiving season.
A Rewarding Bloom
After years of patient care .. Our Vanda Orchid finally decided to grace us with its splendor. On the day before Thanksgiving, four exquisite purple-blue flowers unfurled, a sight we’ve been hoping to see for so long. This orchid has been with us for a few years, and there were moments I wondered if we were giving her what she needed. Clearly, she’s been thriving, waiting for the perfect time to reward our patience. The vivid blooms are a reminder of how perseverance, coupled with a little love and care, can lead to something extraordinary.
Standing near the window, where she catches just the right light, the Vanda now steals the show. Her delicate flowers seem to glow, adding a touch of tropical elegance to the cooler season.
Adding to the Silver Stack
Thanksgiving wasn’t just about turkey and orchids .. This year it was also about silver. I’ve added 1.7754 ounces of silver to the stack with a recent eBay auction win. The haul includes:
3 -- Pre-1964 90% Silver Half Dollars = .3617 X 3 = 1.0851oz of silver
3 -- Pre-1964 90% Silver Quarters = .1808 X 3 = .5424oz of silver
1 -- 40% Silver Half Dollar (1966) = .1479 X 1 = .1479oz of silver
At today’s silver price, this batch equates to about $55.65 in value .. And the best part? I managed to snag it below spot price with free shipping! These additions aren’t just about stacking silver; they’re tied to my ongoing quest to complete a 1946–1959 silver quarter collection. Even though these coins didn't end up fitting into my quarter collection, I’m still just four quarters away from finishing the set. Soon enough I'm sure.
There’s something so satisfying about finding hidden (or not so hidden) treasures like these .. Whether it’s bidding successfully or simply holding these beautifully aged coins. Each one has its own story and a little bit of history that connects it to a bygone era.
Thanksgiving Adventures with Mr. Huxley
The long weekend also marked a milestone for Mr. Huxley.. We spent Thanksgiving with family in Lancaster, PA, and Huxley quickly became the star of the gathering. He charmed everyone with his sweet personality, soaked up all the attention from Mommy and Daddy, and even got to enjoy his first taste of turkey. Between football games, the warmth of the fireplace, and a sprinkle of snowflakes .. Huxley's First! .. He had a holiday full of new experiences and cozy moments.
It’s heartwarming to see how much joy this little pup brings wherever he goes. Watching him play, relax, and share in the family’s love feels like the perfect reminder of what the season is all about.
As we transition from Thanksgiving into the Christmas season, the orchid blooms, silver finds, and Huxley’s ever-growing curiosity serve as beautiful reminders of how gratitude and patience often lead to the most unexpected joys.
Also check out the Thanksgiving Cactus in full bloom now.. BEAUTIFUL!!!
The vanda is truly nice. I love marking on the petals!!!
And Mr Huxley! He has brought you and the missus joy! I am looking forward to seeing much of him in your post.
My... what a haul of silver coins, @bdmillergallery! It is exciting to see you complete (almost) your album of quarters. Keep on going!!!
I am grateful for your friendship and the sharing of parts of your life.

The markings almost remind me of clouds in the blue sky. I've seen where clouds look like that.. tiny white blotches all in a perfect line.
Oh Sir Huxley is a cool dude. He brings us a lot of joy with a little naughtiness mixed in for fun.
I like picking up cheep silver coins (below spot when I can find them). It's fun and beneficial at the same time. I skip the coffee shop and eating lunch out almost every day, and spend that money on silver instead. It's amazing how much one can accumulate over a short period of time just giving up one or two simple pleasures. I'm better off for it.
I am also grateful for your friendship 😁

I thought those coins were gold at first the way the lighting was! I was like dang! That photo of the Thanksgiving cactus is amazing. You know I have admired it in the past, but you captured the beauty and enormity of it really well in that shot. I hope you had an awesome holiday! Ours was filled with some newfound laughter and love (no, it wasn't a dog!) :)
I wish. I have a couple of gold coins but nothing like some of our fellow stackers. The cactus turned out really amazing this year and I do remember your thoughtful comments of the past. New laughter and love, no matter the source, is something to cherish. Glad you had that.
I hope that one day I will have a few fractional coins at the very least. Yeah, it was a good time this past week. I'm ready for it to be Christmas now!
Mine are fractional but commemorative from the 1984 and 1988 Olympics. I should do a post on them sometime. I went through a phase where I bought a ton of gold jewelry from yard sales and what not a long while back. I have a decent amount and am up about 700% on my original purchase costs.. not a bad average. One day I'd like to get a few coins or bars instead.
Ho Ho Ho - He's on his way soon.. If you've been good that is.
Oh wow, that's pretty awesome. I bet it's harder to do that sort of thing these days. Everyone thinks their stuff is priceless and sites like eBay make it easier for them to know what it is really worth.
Oh yeah. Plus it's not as safe anymore. people are nuts.
When times are tough, that the time to head out to the yard sales on the weekends and ask if they have any gold they want to sell. People if desperate will part with it at 60% of the value for the quick buck. Just have to be careful and buy the right testing equipment so you don't get fooled.
Ah, okay, that is a really good point.
Amazing blooms on the Cactus, I had a nice one with solid red blooms that was lost in my last move twenty years ago. I still don't know what happened to it. Maybe I should simply buy another one after all these years.
🌵
haha.. a good crazy move always ends up in something broken or lost. Sorry to hear that. Yes.. When you are good and ready, get yourself another! 🌵
wow, what a nice and blooming orchid, I wanna have an orchid too. That precious silvers was so satisfying. Hope you'll have a great thanks giving.
We had a nice Thanksgiving. Do you celebrate Thanksgiving or something like it? Thank you for the Orchid compliment. We are really enjoying the blooms after a very long (2 years) wait.

Thank you @tattoodjay 😁
The thanksgiving is as juicy as far.
Especially the addition of silver.
Amen to that! Thanks for the comment 😊
You are welcome
Aww
Your flowers look beautiful
I can see that you are a coin lover as well
I like that!
Yes.. I like silver coins for the most part. It's fun and you accumulate wealth at the same time. Thanks for the Orchid compliments 😁
Just like plants, we humans always get results by combining perseverance and work. That's exactly what I do, work, persevere, and I know I'll get results. Dreaming is good, but you have to fight to achieve them.
I wish you a happy day.
Yes you do.. 100%. Nothing comes easy and as a bonus I feel good after a little hard work.. mental or physical. Happy day to you too!!!
I'm glad to see you have a collection of Silver Quarters and Half Dollars... Life looks good...
Yes at this point I have quite a few of them. Each one gets me a step closer to my overall financial security goals. 😊
Very nice
Nice indeed. Hope all is well with you. Don't blow away!!! It's been crazy down here in the south today.
