Getting the Brain Working Again

Our recent holiday was a bit of a minimal electronics period... We still had phones, but the reception was pretty poopy, and there were no Switches, tablets, or computers. That meant that I did some HIVE posting on the phone (with an external mini-keyboard!) ... but for entertainment, we were playing knucklebones, card games, and puzzle books!

It has been ages since I've had to push my brain to concentrate for long extended periods... I do remember doing it a lot when doing physics and mathematics... those long extended periods of concentration whilst holding onto a train of thought... and I sort of do that a bit with the performing, but not quite to the same extent... and with different parameters, as you can't daydream and you have to be in real-time whilst leading, directing, or just playing! So, highly aware and heightened senses, but a different sort to just calculating, building in your head, or doing logic stuff.

I used to do these logic books all the time as a kid and at university... I find it is quite relaxing, and satisfying when it all falls out. Other people prefer crosswords or sodoku, but those never grabbed me... my oldest child does these logic puzzles as well, but both of the girls prefer word searches instead.

... meanwhile, my wife hasn't really done much of these things

It took a little bit to get back into... but as soon as I started, it all came back to me... how to bounce around the logic grid so that I wouldn't get lost in the words but to rely on logical connections instead...

... my wife also started her very first logic grid as well... and she did it! Although, she has a very different mind to mine, and so she was sticking to the words and then doing the logic via the words... I really just find that too confusing and hard!

... ahhhh, that satisfying feeling when it all comes together and falls out nicely in the end! Lots of concentration burn, and the release is quite something!

... and likewise, the slight annoyance when a contradiction appears in the grid... for me that is a moment, to just let it go and move onto the next one. No-one likes hunting around trying figure out where something went wrong... and when!
