It must have been in 2011 or 2012 if my memory is good and I was deeply into the study of wild plants and their medicinal virtues with some books that could be found on the subject at that time.
The most common wild plants were listed of course and I had fun to go around with my precious books to try to discover new species.
That's how I learned about the existence of the garlic mustard and how I was able to observe its abundant presence in the vicinity of the house.
It can be recognized by its leaves, its stem, its small white flowers and especially by its garlic smell when you crush the leaves. It grows in spring everywhere in the slopes, ditches, even the woods sometimes.
It is used in cooking and has medicinal virtues of which I could note the effects!
My father came to spend a few days at the farm, and arrived with a bandage on his hand. Questioned about what he had, he simply said I had cut myself with a piece of glass between the index and middle fingers.
The evening came, he complained about his hand, undid his bandage and to his horror the skin was all infected, the fingers started to become a little blue, I asked him if he disinfected the wound and he answered that he put it under water !!!!!
Given the state of the hand, I ask him to call the hospital, he refuses - difficult to take a septuagenarian by force if he doesn't want to -
I then remembered what I had read about medicinal allium: it was used to disinfect purulent wounds that did not heal.
The next morning, I would pick up a few alliaria leaves, crumple them up to get the juice out, and put them as a poultice on the wound.
My daddy was anxious all day long, he could feel that the plant was working and that something was happening, but it didn't hurt.
The evening came and I changed the leaves and surprise! they had absorbed the mood of the wound which had deflated well.
I renewed 3 days in a row, believe me if you want, at the end of this time the wound was totally disinfected and it had begun to close. We never talked about this wound again, he just kept a small scar.
It seems to me that on that day a simple wild plant saved my dad's hand and I thanked life for having given me this remedy at exactly the right time of the season, as well as showing the extent of the power of plants if they are well used.

Wow... Great discovery.
A lot has really been said about this Garlic and I'm glad they all are good medically.
I still know that there are a lot of undiscovered plants out there which could be helpful too.

thanks for your visit, yes I think there is still a lot to discover about the virtues of plants and trees it is fascinating
You're welcome
I believe in the medicinal value nature provides. Many modern medicine is derived from plants. Nature has healing power for sure.
I believe so too and studying the virtues of plants is fascinating. Reassuring also because if we were to run out of medicines or if we were lost in nature, we know that there are accessible remedies :)
This is so relieving honestly because I was anxious about the state of the injury! Luckily he has you this is why the phrase, “ education is power” because without you not reading and learning you wouldn't have known how to approach.
Indeed, I had not asked myself the question under this angle, it is a very useful remark :) thank you
