Orang Kanada as the background of the proud non-timber forest products which produced by the women's group in Samarkilang. It's organic for sure, because the source of the sugar palm from the nature itself and the way they process from the sap to crystalized palm sugar without any artificial chemical elements added

Dear Hivers👋

This post is the last late post about My Unforgettable journey to Samarkilang, Bener Meriah, Aceh, Indonesia in January 2022. I spent 3 whole days and nights there. The next day after the business center launching ceremony, we packed our bag, left none to stay around for a couple of weeks as the prove of our trust on the women's group to continue their business. The official of the organization who's in charge of the following action still coming to the village until today. The village has considered our team as their family and Katahati Enterprise also the marketer of their products. If you want to purchase any products or want to know more, you can contact them on instagram @katahatienterprise.

while loading our packs before we set to go, I took time to once again snaps some pictures of the village activities. There's no traditional wet market here in Kerlang, so the sellers come to village by car or motorcycle. The man and his motorcycle with the scale on it is a fishmonger. He came from the coastal district, Bireuen. Can you imagine how "exciting" the road he had been through to reach Kerlang Village was?

The only school they have there is an elementary school and if the children want to continue their study, they need to live away from their parents and village. They go to the central of the districts or other districts in Aceh. Most parents usually sent their children to Islamic boarding school or institution.

finally, we stopped by the waterfall which I have been passed 3 times before but always at night. "Penawar Waterfall" lies a few steps from the main street in Tembolon, Samarkilang; About 30 minutes by car from Kerlang Village. No other visitors for sure, because it's not a holiday. so we just entered the place without parking fee or entry fee. I was planning to take a bath there (none of the team took shower that morning, i guess🤫) but the team had been invited to have lunch at Redelong; the central of the district Bener Meriah by a very kind man, Harsa. So, forget about playing under the waterfall, snaps some pictures was fine too

I did touch the water though

Maybe, because I was too careless and excited when I was running around the place, I slip down to the water 🙃when I stepped up on a moldy big stone to get as near as i could be to reach the waterfall. Fortunately, nothing serious with the fell down accident, I just needed to let someone massage my back one time when I went back home in Lhokseumawe. After 20 minutes at the waterfall, we drive straight ahead to Redelong. Having our sumptuous lunch and purchase some necessary things for the next Agenda.

What Agenda🤨??

Uhm... It's Durian Time!!
We, I mean My hubby @dipoabasch and I were lucky because we came to Bener Meriah at the end of the Durian Harvesting time. One of the member of the team, Dian Ismi has a close relative living in Bener Meriah. We asked her to take us to the Durian's Plantation belongs to her family. The place is right on our way back home.

the scenery on the way to Dian relative's Durian Orchard in Lampahan. Lampahan is the warmest place in the district and the only area where they can grow the paddy

We reached the durian orchard about 1 hour from Redelong after lunch. Dian has been in contact with her relative who owned the orchard; we just have to stopped by and enjoy the durian which she had collected from under the tree the night before. Oh, we can't eat durian right after it fell down from its tree, we need to wait for at least one night to get the best creamy taste out of it. was it for free?

orang Kanada was having his coffee after all available durian to eat on the spot finished😆I run out of batteries at that time; so, when our time to choose few durians and brought it back as souvenir came, I missed all the moments on my phone🥲but it remains in my memory.

Who cares to snap some pictures when my hands were full already? I have to fight for the best tasted durian with all the team members, there were 11 of us and none of us allergic to this king of fruit. As I told you before, it's the end of the durian harvest season. We're lucky that we could have at least 20 durians for all of us and few more as souvenirs. By the way, we did pay for the durians; but the price is 10 times cheaper than the market price 🤭.

The market price for local durian was $2 each and you need to pay $5-10 for each when you're not staying close to the central of the durian producers' area. By the way, it's a durian heaven for me and hubby. We have to pay $20 for one Durian Monthong in Pamulang, Banten where I live now. So we paid $13 for everything we ate there. Can't you not pay? yes, we can, but the owner of the orchard has to paid someone to collect the durians from orchard and also purchasing a few from the neighbor too.

there are hundreds of trees like this grown around the place, what amazed me was even the dogs around fighting for the best durian with human 😀I failed to capture the moment when 4 dogs came to us and ate the left-over less delicious durian we gave them.

We stayed there for 2 hours and before evening came, we continue our journey back home with additional food containers full of durian's flesh on each hand. the food's container could uphold about 2 durians, and I had 3 or it. Alright, no dinner that night for me, just durian and durian till my heart contented.

We arrived at Bireuen on 8PM, I have to wave goodbye to the team who will continue their way back home to Banda Aceh with a promise that I'll be joined the strategic planning arrangement meeting which will be held in a week later in Banda Aceh.

My husband and I continued our trip back to my hometown by a public transportation. We're quite lucky since there's not many other passengers with us. So, when hubby opened the food's container to eat durian's flesh, nobody minds him. There's no written forbidden to eat such a strong smelled food on public transportation, but sometimes we need to consider other's feeling.

The unforgettable journey in Samarkilang, end here😀, if you want to know more about our project there, just watch 👉 Katahati dari Samarkilang👈Thank you for stopping by, supports and encouragement to keep sharing with the communities here. I guess there is a difference between opening a container with durian here in the UK and there. I am sure here we would get shouted at 🤣

LoL, you're absolutely right! I remember that once I had a friend from England whom I accompanied to do a research after tsunami in 2005 complaining about durians smell all over the city when its harvested season came 😁 oohh I wish you know how my sweet friend @simplymike would react everytime I showed her "durian" 😂😂 oh she's from Sweden.

By the way, I watch the news that one of our durians producers here in Indonesia also exported the fruits to England.
