Spring is almost officially here. I hope mother nature understands and keeps this in mind moving forward. I need my fishing fix eventually. The temps have been nice enough, but the weather this last weekend was rather fussy. We got lots of rain and thunderstorms.
Thinking about seeing if the youngest son, if he doesn't take a trip to see his grandfather, wants to go fishing this next weekend. We haven't been for a long time and it will be good to get out and converse as father and son by ourselves.
I've always enjoyed fishing with my boys. The delight in their eyes when they hook into a fish is unforgettable. The excitement they would experience is something I will remember fondly till the day I take a dirt nap. I hope they will continue to remember those days as well long after I am gone.
Of course that excitement and the look in their eyes isn't the same now that they are older, but I still enjoy the time. I don't get to fish with my oldest anymore as he lives further away, but still get to with the youngest.
We will talk about his work, school, girlfriend, and other adventures in life. I share with him my thoughts and advice, tell stories, maybe even ones that stay between guys. Even when we don't catch anything, it is an enjoyable time.
If we don't go and he visits his grandfather, I know they will go fishing. His grandfather has been talking about fishing constantly every night when my wife talks to him. He dislikes the idea of fishing by himself due to his age and safety.
The time they could spend together would be amazing as they rarely get to spend time together and I know they would both really enjoy it. So I almost hope my trip this weekend gets delayed because he makes the trip south to see grandpa and go fishing with him.
In the interim, maybe if he does go, I will just use the time to straighten up my garage finally. It really needs it, but the crux is that I will need some muscle to help. With him out of town, I am not sure how I can accomplish it. I may pay an older local neighborhood kid to help me out.
Well, enough for now. Time for some coffee.
Thanks for reading,
Joe

It's great when they are old enough to do some of the stuff on their own. Before that you don't really get to fish too much as the adult. You spend more time putting worms on hooks and untangling lines! It's still a great time though! I'm hoping to get out a bit myself this year.
Yes, it is great that they can tie their own line, bait their own hook and all that stuff. It is also cool we can talk like adults (loosely used) when we are together now too. I would like to get more fishing done this year as well.
So agree that fishing is a great bonding time. I enjoyed fishing with my son as he grew up. Hopefully for you it will happen this next weekend 🎣
It sure is good bonding time. You’re absolutely right. I hope we get to enjoy it too.
Im itching to get back out. We had some really nice weather this past few days but 3-7 inches of snow forecasted for tomorrow. It was over 80° yesterday, haha
Ah yes fishing was a great time for me as a kid for bonding with my father!
Spring is here and been very mild, I am sure mother nature has another kick in the butt for us before winter really is over.
I hope she is done, but I am with you in that I think she has another round of winter left in her before letting us really enjoy spring.
Well we had a drop in temperature last night to below freezing so yes that was a sting in her tail.

If he does go visit his grandpa be careful in that garage. Last thing you need is to take a fall again.
There really aren't many moments quite as memorable as when you're kid catches a fish. It's so much fun and they remember the time spent with us too. I hope you're doing OK brother!
If I do clean up the garage, it will be me in a supervisory role while some youngster does the heavy lifting.
Yeah, the look on their faces is great when they catch something when they are young. Even now as an adult when they catch something it is still fun to watch them.
I'm doing okay. Have wonky moments, but it is all good.
