Hello Hivers and Silver Bloggers! I hope you say goodbye to the year with peace and harmony, and that 2025 is filled with good vibes, health, love, and prosperity for all.
Yesterday, on Sunday, we visited one of the neighborhoods in Bogota that I like the most, Chapinero Alto. I had written about this neighborhood during my trip here last January when I stayed in an Airbnb there.
We had planned to lunch at a small Argentine-owned restaurant. We had heard about a popular custom in Argentina and other South American countries, where on the 29th of every month, they serve gnocchi to attract prosperity. It’s called The Gnocchi of the 29th. And in this place they follow the custom.
The custom is to place a bill or a coin under the plate of gnocchi to attract luck and prosperity for the upcoming month. We followed this tradition as well, hehe. They offered two sauces for the gnocchi. I decided to order my portion with half of each sauce to sample both. One sauce was a mint bechamel sauce with pickled vegetables, which offered a distinct flavor from the traditional sauces. The other sauce was a braised meat sauce, which I thoroughly enjoyed.
The restaurant is also a vermuteria. So we ordered red vermouth to drink. I like that they bring it to you in a little penguin, and a bottle with a siphon of carbonated water so that you can serve the vermouth at the table.
For dessert, the hubby and my son ordered a flan with dulce de leche and I had a craving for an alfajor. However, I must say that I have had much better ones. The cookie of the alfajor was not the best.
After eating we decided to walk around a bit to help our digestion ;)
Sur, which is the name of the vermutería, is pet-friendly. It has small tables outside where pet owners can sit with their furry friends. At the time we visited, there was a cute puppy who seems very curious about the people walking by on the sidewalk.
I like the fact that in this sector of the city there are still many houses with a vintage charm.
In some of them there are cafes and design stores.
As we continued our walk, we came across a small garden where there were a couple of rabbits, quite large, by the way LOL And in front of that house, on the sidewalk, there were a couple of raised boxes that had been planted with a mini garden. I found this a curious and charming detail.
We passed by a cafe called Varietale located on a corner with several tables on a very nice terrace overlooking the street. So we decided to go in and have a coffee.
But we ended up having the coffee at the tables indoors because it started to drizzle.
But not before saying hello to this small representation of the iconic character of the Argentine cartoonist Quino. I'm sure that dear Mafalda would be very happy that we had eaten Los Ñoquis del 29 or maybe not, maybe she think is a stupid joke. With Mafalda you never know what to expect. What do you think? hehe.
When we left the cafe, we ordered a Didi to go back to the apartment and enjoy the rest of the afternoon watching the two chapters we were missing of the One Hundred Years of Solitude series on Netflix. Have you seen it?

An enjoyable post with nice photos (I loved that Mafalda, what a cute thing, gee) It looks like a nice neighborhood to take street photos!... I'm going to the kitchen, your post made me hungry! hahaha :))... (I'm back) I have read 100 Años de soledad several times since I was 7 years old (I read it at that age while being confined due to severe bronchitis, Dad said it was not reading for a child of that age, but Mom allowed me to read it... And wow, did it mark my taste for reading!) I haven't seen the series on Netflix, but I've heard good things about it, maybe I'll watch it... Have a happy new year @coquicoin friend!!!! Thanks for sharing! ;)

Where is this? South America?
Totally different lifestyles from what I'm use to.. of course that is natural as we have a really diverse population on earth, nice seeing that actually... what we see as the norm might not be so on the other side of the ocean!
What a fascinating adventure! Interesting custom The Gnocchi of the 29th. May you continue to attract prosperity in the process. Thank you for sharing such lovely experiences. A Happy New Year to you and yours. May 2025 bring us more blessings.
