The vast majority of my blog posts end up coming to the world, late at night. In fact, many of them don't see the light of "day" until after midnight, sometime.
Maybe that seems a little odd, coming from someone who periodically writes about the fact that his brain works best in the morning, before having had any kind of "screen time."
Of course, just because I know that to be true doesn't mean I actually follow my own advice.
I'd like to, but ultimately it's all a matter of not only setting priorities, but then sticking to them!
Whereas I really enjoy my time spent blogging, I sadly can't assign it a very high priority in my life. Maybe it would be different if I was walking away with $50 per post... but that's not about to happen, anytime soon.
So, because blogging falls under the general heading of "hobbies and diversions" in my world, it becomes one the last things I give time to, on any given day. And I end up missing days, and even weeks sometime.
Mrs. Denmarkguy sometimes claims I lack a sense of fun and adventure... and take this thing called "reality" far too seriously!
Well, I just think you have to be somewhat strict with our priorities, particularly if you don't have much "wiggle room" in your life. To be honest, there's nothing I'd like more than to spend 6-8 hours a day writing, but that would have disastrous effects on our ability to pay bills. So I don't.
But because my writing does matter, I sometimes end up staying up very late to get some ideas down and "out there."
Sometimes I pause and feel some passing guilt over the reality that perhaps I am not producing my best work because I end up feeling staggeringly tired before I can justify sitting down to write.
But I do show up... because part of what gets us towards our goals is the willingness to show up every day, including on those days when you just don't feel like it.
So, this week is Thanksgiving, here in the USA.
Although I didn't grow up with Thanksgiving in Denmark, it has gradually become a favorite holiday... an large part because I am always a fan of a good feast, but also because it find it to be a good practice to pause and express gratitude for the good things in our lives.
So far 2024 has definitely not been a banner year... more things have gone wrong than have gone right, and sometimes it has felt like virtually every day has felt like a struggle, and simply making it through to bedtime is a miracle to feel grateful for!
But I am grateful. Grateful that I — at least — am able to sit down at 1:00am and pen a few words!
Thanks for stopping by, and have a great rest of your week!

Do we always follow our own advice.. I know I don't 🤣
There'd be NO writing here if that were the case! Mine are the first thing I do when I get up, usually between 4AM and 6AM. They might go up later, just because someone took a ton of photos that had to be edited...
