The Only Constant in Life is CHANGE!

in Silver Bloggers2 years ago

I suppose I have always been rather attached to keeping things the way they are, particularly if ”the way things are” seems somewhat stable and comfortable.

I have never much cared for change, and I have definitely never been one of those people who feels the urge to change things on a regular basis, or they start feeling bored. No ”change for change’s sake” for this boy!

However, I also recognize that the old truism that is the title of this post tends to be a ”truism” for a good reason. Change seems to happen all the time, everywhere, regardless of whether or not you like it.

The other day I was talking to a friend about being a seller on eBay. eBay of 20 years ago was actually a lot of fun! It was sort of a giant online garage sale of weird stuff and collectors items come on you could find almost anything there. I remember a friend of mine sold an antique toilet seat from Silver City NV for almost 100 bucks! People really enjoyed participating in what was then the predominant online auction format.

That eBay doesn't even ”exist” anymore. The eBay of 2023 is just another Amazon or Walmart online with lots of generic cheapy stuff being sold by large companies, while the small individual sellers that originally made eBay what it is have all but disappeared.

There's actually a certain irony in that, considering that eBay wouldn't even exist had it not been built by small individual sellers and collectors trading with each other. These were the people who would tirelessly find an offer their cornucopia of merchandise and thereby helped eBay become large enough that it turned into a sizable public corporation.

That same sizable public corporation is now structured in such a way that it's extremely hard for the small individual sellers who built it to make themselves noticed.

Things change, no matter whether we like it or not.

Sometimes I can't help but sit and ponder some of the many changes we see in the name of ”progress” and wonder how many of these are actually progress, and how many are merely schemes dreamed up by some geek with an MBA from Harvard as a means to make the corporation more profits.

How that constitutes building a better world I really don't understand. But don't mind me I'm getting old increasingly grey!

Meanwhile, I have been somewhat absent from the blogosphere for a few days… mostly as a result of the time and effort involved in participating in that arts and crafts show we were part of this past weekend. Whereas we definitely had fun — and we even made a modest amount of money — I realize that I still feel pretty tired from having been ”on” with the general public for a couple of days.

Of course a large part of that just has to do with how life works, when you're an introvert!

Thanks for stopping by, and have a great remainder of your week!

Everything does change and I get that. However lately many, if not most, of the changes seem to be for the worse.

Sadly, I feel you are right about that. Either we're just getting old, and the changes DO suit the younger generations... or the world is truly decaying... usually in the name of profit.

I remember being upset by even the slightest changes when I was a child. It takes more to upset me now, but I certainly have found many changes to be unpleasant. I don't go out of my way to make changes just because I can. I'm not one to repaint the walls just because inspiration strikes, or rearrange the furniture because I'm bored.

Yeah, that whole changing things around your house "just because" pretty much drives me nuts! Perhaps — at least in part — because I don't tend to get bored.

I'm also "on the spectrum" (slightly) as the world calls it, these days.

Oh! I think I spotted a four leaves clover in that rock crack.

Could be your lucky day!

Nice place

Thank you!
