With similar challenges, my trick for writing a book (33,000 words of non-fiction) was planning it in detail, down to the paragraph level, and then taking a month off to focus on writing the book only. The writing was then just a matter of filling in the blanks, besides one reorganization. The whole process was more fun than I expected.
