Very true! Hopefully, they learned something from the situation. It is really scary how bad these students' writings are. A strange future is ahead of us!

I also hope that they did! Terrible, I know, but then again it was found that children in grade 4 cannot read with meaning. By the time that they reach 20 years of age, I will be long gone and you guys will sit with the mess !LOLZ

@fermentedphil, I sent you an on behalf of @papilloncharityIt is not nice to sit with this mess, to be honest! Because now we sit with the baked pears (lol) "gebakte pere" as they would say. And linked with that intense sense of entitlement it is dangerous. One meeting went very south and I actually got a little scared; luckily, there was someone else in the office as well. Alas, we can only do so much!
And it's going to get worse in the future, so we don't have any answers to the problems. Maybe meetings should take place virtually.
All that you can do is to try your best.

The approach they are taking at the charity you showed me is heading in the right direction in my opinion. Moreover, I would argue that examination as we know it and teaching as we know it should fundamentally change. The student can also teach the lecturer (in the right framework) and co-examination should be a thing in which students can talk to each other and the lecturer. The framework of strict pedagogy with the lecturer or prof as single authority figure is, in my opinion, an outdated mode of teaching (at least in university). Sorry for the essay!
Exactly right, as the talents of the students are ignored and instead, they are dumbed down into a boxed system. Dual communication is essential, with respect of course, and I so hope that a total change will take place. There are many effective and proven systems across the world, so we don't have to re-invent the wheel. Anything will be better than the one that are forced on us right now.

Yes, so true. And people who can manipulate the system, not always the brilliant students, will achieve more down the line. So sad.
I have read about so many of these different educational systems, but the most worrying is that they rarely get funded because they do not produce docile young people ready to be manipulated by the system.
I feel my worth will be in finding these new frameworks that are suitable for philosophy in South Africa. A dream of mine, but the current system (I can already feel) is draining my will to do better and remain in this rebel stage!
Never forget that it was people like you that really felt disillusioned with the systems and their dedication resulted into the development of new and very effective systems.
A careful stigma was attached to people that really wanted to improve their education as the earned the title of being "clever blacks". You and I know that there is no such things and I so wish that this country could be filled with "clever blacks". But as you say, keep them docile to get their votes.
Remember that this period in life is only temporary, as it is meant to shape you for bigger things.
