Silver Bloggers' Community Smorgasbord - 1st Edition 2025

Hello, Silver Bloggers!

The past couple of years have been a bit turbulent for our admin team and we've had a bit of a break from our usual Smorgasbord, and have published it sporadically. But we're back now, and it's time to showcase another bunch of posts from our Silver Bloggers - it's that time when we share some of your gems.

But first, let me tell you how we selected the posts.

Selection criteria

All the posts are chosen from posts in the community, and from accounts that have subscribed to the Silver Bloggers' community. Also, the topic must fit in with our general themes as set out on our community page -

a keenness to learn more about blockchain and crypto
life experiences
musings and memories of lives lived
planning for (and doing) life beyond formal work

Posts that are a response to #BOM and #SilverPrompts are not considered.

Memoir Monday #45 What is one of your favorite memories of your mother?

This might not be a favorite memory but around this age, I remember having to take naps with my mom, she would put me in the crook of her arm and hold me until I went to sleep. With it being summer and no A/C or fan, her armpit smelled and I kept trying to get my head away from it but she kept putting me back where it was comfortable for her to hold me. I would give up trying to get fresh air and fall asleep.

Huxley's Snow Day!

After about ten minutes, I decided it was time for Huxley to come inside and warm up. His tiny frame was adorned with what I call "snowberries" — little clumps of snow stuck to his fur. We melted them away and towel-dried him until he was as good as new. Still, his puppy enthusiasm hadn’t waned. No sooner had I finished drying him than he was pawing at the door, ready for round two.

Memoir Monday: What is one of your favorite memories of your mother?

I have had many unique moments with my mother, but perhaps the one I remember most was the first time I fell in love. My mother and I have always had a relationship of trust: I think there are few things I have experienced that my mother doesn't know about. That's why, when I was 22 years old, after a trip in which I had met my first love, my mom asked me, immediately she saw me, as if something strange she could see in my face:

Memories for the future

A few moments ago I was talking to a grandson who is 17 years old and I reminded him of my way of seeing the world, when I was his age. He looked at me attentively, I recognized that at that time my insecurities and not knowing how to take responsibility for myself, brought me a lot of fear. Apparently the same thing happens today with young people.

This year we traveled again as every year “as a family” but this trip had a different particularity and that was that my mother was waiting for us with a new heart, with more batteries to support her children and grandchildren for many more years, to love us and love us with much more strength.

Memories of my mother | MEMOIR MONDAY (WEEK 45)

At all stages of my life I have many memories of her. However, I like to emphasize her determination and determination so that we, her children, would study. For my mother that was a priority above anything else. Many times her determination had to prevail over my father's plans, who considered that the important thing was not to study but to learn a manual trade.
