Trip down memory lane of 1992 - #BoW Entry

in Silver Bloggers3 years ago

Greetings amazing Hivers and Silver Bloggers!

Christmas month finally arrived and the cool air on my side of the world really made me feel it too :)

This week's theme is so interesting that it makes my mind wander back many years past, even way back to when we celebrated New Year of 1992.

Looking back to look forward:
how will your ✨New Year 2022✨ party plan shape up against your
💃1992 New Year's celebration💃?

My siblings and I still have yet to plan our 2022 New Year, but I am very sure it will be fun just as we had in the previous years. It will be quite different though as our mom has had a mild stroke a month ago and it would mean we will be having the celebration in their house because she is not able to move around comfortably as she used to.

Back in 1992 when I was only a little over 11 years old, our family's New Year celebration was done in the daytime of January first. It had always been that way as far as my memory tells me and was always big (the number of people was usually above 50 because my mom has 6 siblings plus their children, grandkids, and sometimes, some other people tag along and neighbors were invited too.)

It was a family reunion for the whole clan on my mom's side and our stretchy yard was usually bustling and our kitchen was busy too. Uncles or aunts cooking, chitchats everywhere, kids running here and there, climbing the fruit trees down the yard, and games were played and prizes were given. Was mostly noisy yet the kind that it was really, really fun. At times, some kids would even beg their moms to not go home yet because they still wanted to play with the others.

As far as I can remember, that had been our family's way of enjoying the occasion especially when my grandmother was still with us. But things changed over the years when we grew older and most of us have gotten married and left town to the city or to other places and also grandmom was no longer with us. Those celebrations have become a thing of the past because it is now impossible to have the whole clan come together again as it used to.

But even so, the tradition will still continue within our very own family, albeit on a smaller scale. Our parents, the farm boy and I, my siblings along with their husbands and wives, and their children will come home to our parent's house and celebrate the season altogether. It would also be great if our in-laws would join us as it had been in the recent few years.

For the upcoming 2022 New Year's Eve celebration, I imagine that it will have the same idea of the fun we have had back in 1992. There will be plenty of food as usual. We will definitely cook our family's favorite dishes and probably order some that we don't know how to make ourselves. There will be salads and of course, sweet treats from our very own chef, my niece Kits, whom I have featured in my previous article.

I am also thinking about having a hot pot for the whole family. We haven't had it in 1992 and it will be great to experience it all together in 2022.

We will also light up our old folk's fireplace, grill some meat, hotdogs, and marshmallows.

Obviously, there will be unending chitchats, teasing, and of course, games that will be so fun for the kids. I am thinking of a game where we blindfold the kids and then scatter paper bills in different amounts (20, 50, 100, 500, 1000) all around the floor and let them find them. It will be exciting and fun for them for sure. I can now imagine the mirth the kids will have and there will be lots of roaring laughter and giggles, and probably jumping too every time one of them finds one, especially the higher denomination (Php1000 or $20). We didn't have that game in 1992! We had the potluck which was fun too :)

Unlike in 1992 where we celebrated New Year in the daytime of the first of January and our relatives go home to their own houses at the end of the day, the incoming 2022 will be different because we will be having the celebration on the evening of December 31st. We will spend the night in our parent's home, stay awake until the middle of the night and welcome the very first minute of the new year.

And yes, I will definitely ask my siblings if they can still remember how our celebration in 1992 went. Our Dad will most likely be the judge as to whose memory is correct because he has the sharpest memory amongst all of us :)

That's how my 2022 New Year's party plans have been shaped up so far while I took a trip to memory lane of 1992 and reminisced the joy we have had back then. I had so much fun writing this and how much more when the occasion finally arrives! I am sure that the coming year celebration will definitely be a blast the thought excites me already :)

And it is also worthy to say that whilst our way of celebrating the important occasion has changed over the years, and may still change as time goes by, we hope that our young kids will learn and value the tradition and hopefully, carry with them and apply too when they will have their own families.

Thank you to the admins and moderators of this wonderful community for this week's topic that absolutely brought me back as far back as 3 decades ago. And Salute to all that you do. Cheers!

Climbing back down into the past brings back sweet memories of those who where with us celebrating at that time. Faces age around the table, some go with new little arrivals filling the space, always with family and friends to welcome the year in together sounds like you have planned it all out.

Yes Joan, that is indeed true. We lose some and welcome some too :) And our family just had a new addition last month :) A very beautiful boy who will be spending his first holiday celebration with the whole family.

Enjoy your time together with the little new arrival, that is what makes this time of year extra special.

We will Joan, thank you. They live in the city and we will all meet up at my parents' on the 24th :)

Oh, Sis, I didn't know about your mother, I hope she's better now. I remember that a while ago it was also your father who had a health problem.

When I was little, my family used to celebrate on the 31st at my grandmother's house and on January 1 there was also a great family gathering at the house of one of my aunts. Cheers!

She is getting better each day, thank you sis.

It's a great feeling to remember the family gathering of the past. They don't happen these years anymore :)

I'm glad she is getting better.
To remember those family gatherings bring me Saudade.

Oh yes, the Saudade :)

I have a big family too, and I cherish the times we get to spend together.

Sorry to hear about your mom. Glad she's doing better.

I'm curious: what's up with the hotdogs and marshmallows? Is that a local dish?? I've never seen anything quite like that.

Glad you also love to spend time with your family too. Time spent with family is always a memorable one :)

Thank you :) Mom is doing better every day. She's a warrior :)

For the hotdogs and marshmallows, I am not sure if some other people do that type of dish but it had always been one of the favorites for my nephews and nieces. They love to prepare those themselves and then BBQ them :)

Sorry to hear about your Mum. Hope she's doing better. So glad to have helped the inspiration for your new year's celebration!

Thank you Fiona, mum is doing better every day :) Yes, the week's theme definitely helped the plans :) Thank you indeed!

i felt warm reading this, knowing you and your whole fam celebrated new year together...

Thank you, sis :) It helps that we only live in the same region and takes only a few hours of driving so it is possible.

Lovely memories and plans for the future. Well told and interesting. Sorry about your mom and your gran.

Thank you :) I implore you to participate in the contest too :) It's okay, life's like that. It can surprise us good and bad

Sounds like you have many wonderful memories over the years and I can just imagine the family having a joyful time together, much like ours.
I'm very sorry to hear about your Mom, wish her a good recovery!
Thank you for the wonderful #bow entry.

I have Lizzie and reminiscing them while writing the entry brought some nostalgia :) Happy that your family also spend joyful moments together, those times make our souls glow :)

Thank you for your good wishes for my mom. She is doing better although she isn't as agile as before. It is always a pleasure to write here in SilverBloggers :) Thanks a lot and Cheers!
