For some reason, this photo made me think of my mama.
She always loved that time of the evening, when the sun was almost gone from the sky, the quiet of evening was approaching.
Colors of the day became somewhat more muted, yet the sun would pick seemingly random spots to shine through.
She would take slow, rambling walks on our dirt road, ostensibly looking for nails to be picked up and tossed into the woods so no tires would be punctured, but also looking for flint chips, arrow heads and Pottery.
We lived in an area that had been the site of extensive generational Native American activities prior to the curse of the Europeans arrived.
Mama and I had a very close and special relationship.

As a child, being in the woods I would sometimes get “red bugs” (most people know them as Chiggers) and they would be in rather awkward and intimate locations, that part was embarrassing not to mention painful.

As a Teen, when my body began to change and I'd get pimples and blackheads on my neck and shoulders (I could handle my face) I would sit on the floor between mama's feet, and she would pick my back and shoulders, very much like you see other primates picking lice off of each other.

Mama's lap was a special place, in Summer when I was home from school during the day, but Daddy worked, at lunch he would come home, eat, then he and mama would go to the sofa, he would lay with his head in her lap and take a nap.

(those are not my parents, but the image exemplifies what it was like for us)
Other times, I would do the same, but what I really like to do, was come into the room quietly, and find her sleeping on the sofa.
So peaceful, inhaling through her nose, and out through her mouth, which caused her to make a little “pooh” sound.
Unutterably cute, it makes my heart swell at the memory of it.

I never seen mom did something like that to my brothers but I remember her "tanning" my sick lil brother under the jackfruit tree for days because she's afraid that he's gone because of bad hepatitic.
i bet the feeling when you did it yourself and your late mama did with the pimples was different and not hurt at all, right?
Yep! When mama did something personal like that for me, it DID occasionally hurt, but nothing like when I tried to lean into a mirror, looking down and/or back as far as I could, which was often not QUITE enough and I would end up bruising myself, trying to pop that pimple or get out a blackhead.
Mama had a Sebaceous Cyst on her right shoulder/back. She could not reach it.
When it would fill, it would itch.
My sisters and I (at different times of course) tried to get this out (imagine a LARGE pocket of pus below the skin, not a pimple nor blackhead, in fact if you didn't know where to look, it was hard to find).
After doing this for years (my returning the favor for her doing my back) I kept at it for a couple of days, and despite what that article I linked out to says,
I GOT IT ALL OUT
and I mean it was almost like those underground hornets nests; at least 4-5 pockets all joined.Once I got all the pus out, it healed up and went away.
It had been an issue for her for more than 40 yrs at that point. (TMI?)
Thanks @cicisaja
I'm speechless... I don't know what to react now, 40 Years?? How strong was she?
You should read her story, which she wrote down and I transcribed and added photos that were from those same periods in her life.
Here is the link to the first chapter

Very nice!!! I miss my mother so much after reading this, although she never ever pulled a chigger off me, or helped me pop a pimple.
Thank you @owasco
Those were very young days, I was all over the woods and the chiggers were all over me.
Oily things like Vicks vapor rub or Campho Phenique did the trick, but on my ... ahem... private parts, they had to come out now
