Happy New Year, with Christmas come and go once again after quiet gatherings where possible, your day sounds like you had good company and a superb time out, sadly no children this year.
Trifle looks tasty, more traditional way we were taught using sherry, at one time there was a custard made for the catering services (for custard slices) that was delicious, curiously not seen in some time.
