One memory - I can't remember the year exactly, but I was part-timing in this company and they'd churn out birthday lists every month, and paste it all over the office (yes, almost pre-internet days). The part-timers never made the list.
It made me mad, coz it was such an easy thing to do to make us feel included, as we did the same job as the full-timers, only on different terms, and HR refused to.
Then I walked in for my shift on my birthday, and my now bestie (at that time we had only known each other for about 4 months), catered food for about 30 people, invited the departments we work closely with, and said "Surprise!! So what if the company doesn't recognise you as one of us. We will celebrate you!"
I had never before experienced such generosity and heart from almost a stranger.
