This post is going to be about cars, old cars, retro cars to be more precise.
There is something to admit, that might sound weird. I am not a driver, I have never been and I won't be. The truth is that I wanted to start driving lessons when I was much younger. Not before my marriage, mainly because my parents weren't drivers either. But at that time cars were scarce and also many, like my parents never became drivers. So, when I got married and we bought our first car, we got terrible accident. I have blank spots in my memory. I only remember how my ex husband lost control and we were heading towards the trees. I had no recollection of how I got out of the car, I only remember that I was taken to the ER and thanks god none of us was having heavy injuries. But the stress and the fear, they pulled me back and long after I was still afraid to overcome that feeling. After the divorce I really did not need a car and I found unnecessary to start lessons. Year after year I was just OK with public transport and taxis. Now, I have no desire to be a driver. It seems too stressful and it is not a secret, that in my country the death rate on the streets is pretty high. Unfortunately there are many, who prefer not to follow the rules and the result is sad statistics everyday.
Some say the car gives you the freedom to go any place any time. And it is true. Now I feel that with a car we may visit places where public transport don't go. But this could be sorted somehow.
Now after this long explanation, let me tell you that I really know next to nothing about cars, but I loved Top Gear and later Grand Tour. Yeah, maybe because the three presenters were fun and it was not just the cars that made the show. I am talking about the trio Clarkson, May and Hammond. They really are hilarious.
There is something very appealing in old cars, I don't know what it is, but these cars attract people all the time. Even me, who happened to be in the Sea Garden (our biggest park in the town) where in its entrance some hundred retro cars were parked and on stage a popular Bulgarian presenter was asking questions about cars.
I changed quickly the lens, because the tele lens I used for the birds would not be OK. Unfortunately it was almost impossible to make a decent picture of any car without someone photobombing. It was packed with people. Besides it is Saturday and the day was perfect - warm, but not as hot as it was in August.
So, join me in this retro tour and see what my camera has caught.
I will start with this beauty, the red Mercedes. Every car got a number. They all were competing for the most elegant car award and the public could vote for their favourite too. I am not sure but I think they said the judges will choose winners from each brand.
You may think this is my favourite and it is correct, but then there are other that draw not only my attention.
The owners did a lot to make their cars shine. This hobby is expensive as some cars cost pretty much. A reporter from one of the TV station said that one of these cars belonged to Nina Ricci, but which one he did not say.
Next is the oldest car from 1924. Impressive, isn't it?
Another red car - Corvette.
Next to it - hmm, I don't know.
Here is the rear side.
One more Corvette, I got only the back of it.
Actually I managed a shot in front.
Next to the Blue Corvette, this Mustang was parked.
Line it up - Maserati. I think first time to see them.
More Italian cars. And of course - Ferrari.
It looks like Mercedes are quite well represented.
The sweetest among them is this toy car.
More German cars represented by the Porsche.
The cars that you see have Bulgarian registration plates, but I was pleased to see there were also from other countries, like this Cadillac with Romanian plates.
And here we have some French cars.
This is the presenter with some random visitor.
I could not stay any longer to find out who will get the grand prix. But it will be in the news and then I will update the post, because I am really curious whose car will be selected to be the most elegant.
If you have to choose, which one do you like the most? I still stick to the first choice and the red Mercedes. But if you have another favourite, which one it will be?
EDIT
There were plenty of awards in different categories. But here the major ones are:
Iconic Car Award - Ferrari Testarosa 1987
Public Award - Mercedes 500K 1936
This competition was named after the man who was known as number 1 among the retro car colectiors in Bulgaria. Sadly he died from Covid in 2021.
The special award named after him went to Mercedes 170 S 1951.
The big award for elegant car went to Citroen DS Cabriolet.
The Mayor's Award went to Jaguar XK140.
Thank you for viewing.

That is quite a parade of amazing vehicles.

You are very, very welcome!
Oh Neli, how cool is this and brings back some memories!
We used to live next to a car dealership that sold Ferraris...
That screenshot of your picture is a Ferrari Testarossa!
That was the car of my dreams...
Now I want to see the update and see who has won!
So many cool cars though!
Wow, your dream car is stunning and I am pleased to say that Ferrari Testarossa got the Iconic Car Award. 🙂 And that is well deserved I believe, because when you think about Ferrari, well it is an iconic car, isn't it?
I have not seen before this retro car show, but apparently it is an annual event and I am happy I was there.
Oh did it really!
That is great news. It looks a fantastic show, and I would mark it on my calender if I was you:)
