His drink and his eats were close at hand (Paw) in the blazing African sun.
I stood at the top of a mountain pass to get some landscapes in the simmering heat. A very hazy day and yet the wind was present. In fact it was the wind that kept us from getting sunstroke.
After the landscapes I will also show you how the animals handle the heat.
So please come and have a look.
The long road at the bottom leads into the start of the mountain pass.
I can only imagine how the old ox wagons traveled over this pass, as there were no modern roads and this is the suspended road up the side of the mountain.
You can see how the heat covered the bay and the mountains.
This is the front ocean end of the bay glimmering in the sun.
So hot that this wasp decided to take a swim in our birdbath.
But the wasp had to clear out, as the dove wanted to air his wings.
And this little one plonked down on top of our wooded walkway.
Finally a shot of the full moon cruising through the cloudy heavens.
Oh yes, I can go on and on, as I took many photos on the day, but I thought that this would be enough to give you an idea about our extra sunny days. 35 Celsius today.
I also wanted to bring some real warmth into the minds of our friends here on hive that live in the snow now.
The lesson from Mother nature here is for all of us in the sun to take care about de-hydration. Drink a dam of water or other cold liquids constantly in order to stay hydrated.
I can't say it better than this squirrel does. When it's hot, drink water.
The worst thing here is that we have not yet reached our top temperatures, as our warmest month is in February, so it's a long way of frying our faces in the sun until they look like brown leather :)
Okay friends, I hope that those in the sun will heed this lesson and please take care of yourselves.

These pics are amazing... but I am confused... some of the pics make it look like the mountains behind Stellenbosch... then the coastline shot looks like it could be Strand... but not quite... perhaps this is somewhere else then?

Yes. Years back... like 3 years back... So much has changed... but for the better mostly.
Just as an idea, my eldest is going to high school in 2022!
Oh yes, I remember that you were in Simonstown.
We left Johannesburg 3 years ago and we now live in the western Cape Province.

We have had about -6 C today - nice cold, but I guess you would have preferred the 35 C to the freezing temperatures😉
I like the squirrel laying on the wooded walkway. Your animals can be glad that they have you two guys, who take care for them and gives them the opportunity to drink something or cool down in the bird bath 😀

No Hannes, believe it or not I favor the lower temperatures now that I am older. A minimum of +10 and a max of +21 is very good for me.
When I was younger the heat never troubled me, but strangely since 2012 I have developed a skin condition that is allergic to direct sunlight.
Thank you and we love the little critters. Hardly a day goes by that I don't take photos of them and also of this little bugger Troy that is laying here at my feet now.

Well, a minimum of +10 would mean if you come to Europe you'll have to do it in Summer but then the sun is also really hot during the day (of course during the day 😉 !LOLZ ) and sometimes we have up to 30 or even 35 C.
These squirrels are so lovely and I would take photos of them all day long 😍

It's summer here in NZ too, and if it goes much over 20 deg I sit in front of the air-con. Thankfully it usually doesn't!
I also love 20 deg, but it's the 30s and thec 40s that get me. Unbearable.
