It was time to take a walk through the forest by the house to check on the Lady’s Slippers. They are near the end of their blooming season.
The orchid’s name, Lady’s Slipper, comes from the flower shape of the bloom which is similar to a slipper or moccasin. Sometimes they are referred to as Moccasin flowers.
.
These flowers bloom in late May and June and can be found in shady woodlands. They are delicate and should not be picked or moved as they rarely survive a different location then under or near the spruce and poplar trees deep in the forest.
Lady’s Slipper is the provincial flower of Prince Edward Island (PEI), Canada and the state wildflower of New Hampshire, U.S. I’ve only seen the pink ones here on the property but they can also be found in white and yellow colors. These are rare orchids and are really endangered because of loss of habitat.
It’s always amazing to see such beautiful flowers hidden in the forest, sometimes with fallen twigs all around them.

Many of the wildflowers, such as, Trilliums and Jack in the Pulpit, have bloomed and faded but there were still lovely wildflowers to be seen on my little forest walk.
Hidden close on the forest floor is the lovely Star Flower.
I was too late to see the white blooms on the thorny branches of the Hawthorn tree.
Daisies and the colorful Devil’s paint Brushes (also known as Orange Hawkweed) wave greetings as I come near the clearing to leave the forest.
Memories
Walking through the forest reminds me of walks with my father. He was a Forest Ranger and as we walked through the forest he would tell me the names of different trees and wildflowers. Picking gum off the spruce trees and chewing it is still a vivid memory of these carefree times.
As I leave the shade of the forest trees, wild strawberries catch my eye in the tall grass. Now if only I had a bowl with me to pick some. Wild strawberries have the sweetest taste and bring back wonderful memories of berry picking with my grandmother. She would take me and another cousin and we would spent an afternoon picking whatever berries were in season, raspberries, blueberries, or strawberries. I would eat more fresh berries than I ever put in the bowl but if we picked enough she would make a delicious strawberry shortcake when we returned to her house.

Most welcome @hive-106316. Thanks for the new community and your kind comments. 🌸
There's nothing better than wild berries, especially wild strawberries - so small and so much better than the big ones from the garden.
I remember the yellow lady slippers here, but I haven't seen one in many years. They have been rare in our area when I was young, but now they are even rarer.
Beautiful flowers, Jo, this is the time of the year when everything's blooming and it's just beautiful 😀

Yellow lady Slipper...I would love to see that color of the Lady’s Slipper Hannes. 🌟
It takes five or more years for the seeds to germinate. They are a rare flower and I hope people aren’t trying to pick them or replant them in their garden as they will not grow well outside of the habitant of the forest that has a certain soil fungus needed for them to survive.
Thanks dear Hannes for your generosity and gifts. 🤗
Whenever I find one in nature I will show it to you, but I haven't seen any of these in many years: https://www.fotocommunity.de/photo/gelber-frauenschuh-willi-von-allmen/43546925
People are stupid - often I find cut flowers which people wanted to take home and then changed their mind. Even if the flowers or plants are not endangered, there's no need to ake anything with you that grows in nature. And as you say, the plants might not even be able to survive in their garden.
You're most welcome, dear Jo, I hope you will have a wonderful Frigg's day and a great weekend 🤗🌞
!PIZZA and !BEER - sounds like a nice dinner :)

Thanks Hannes. We do have the yellow and white (showy) Lady’s Slipper here on the Island but I have only come across the pink ones.
The white Lady's-slipper is a rapidly declining treasure, along with the others, due to habitat loss. They really are an endangered species.
This morning’s sun looks like a nice day is unfolding.
Wishing you a wonderful Frigg’s day again Hannes.🤗☀️
Thanks so much for goodies and gifts. 🍕🍻
My pleasure Jo 😊
We have had another hot day and the weekend is going to be hot too. All around they have storms and hail, but we have only got a few drops ot rain last night.
Have a wonderful weekend, dear Jo 🤗🌞

The lady's slippers is so beautiful. I have never seen it before. Thanks for sharing these here with you sweet memories too.
we have something similar here in yellow that I have nicknamed lady's slipper. I tried finding the picture.. can't seem to find it though LOL Its called Thunbergia mysorensis
Thanks @sofs-su for your lovely comment.
I can see why you see this plant has the shape of a slipper also.
I have some wild strawberries growing here in my backyard.

It’s always nice to just step out the door and pick some wild berries. We have quite a few blueberry bushes growing at the edge of the yard. There’s enough to freeze some to use during the winter.
Thanks @rentmoney for the beer. 🍻
I have wild blueberries growing as well. We don't get to freeze them as they don't last long after being picked. Its nice to have such things as it gives some outdoor activity (picking them) plus food consumption.

Some of my best memories involve the forest and flowers. This was such a wonderful walk through nature and I look forward to the lady slippers, such a delicate treat for me. They are always slightly hidden from one's eye if nature has her way. I had some at the very edges of my property and was always surprised when they came back, year after year. Do you know that I didn't actually know that they were orchids??? I cannot believe that!
Although regulations on picking or transplanting lady slipper plants vary from state to state, either practice is generally discouraged and it is illegal to pick or dig up lady slipper plants on Federal properties.
Because they don't transport well, it is truly discouraged, to the point that many people thought it was illegal.
Thank you for such a beautiful post! Have a wonderful day!
Hi Denise @dswigle. Nature must have decided to keep the delicate Lady’s Slipper hidden to protect it from those who can’t resist picking or trying to transplant it. it’s such a lovely surprise to come across these beauties in the forest. I’m glad you have some close by.💕
I heard it was illegal to disturb these flowers but, as you mentioned, truly discouraged is what is meant.
Have a great day. Today is shaping up to be a nice one here.☀️
Nature is so beautiful and you capture it beautifully here i do love the Lady Slipper flower 😊
Thanks @kohsamui99.🌸 It’s always lovely to see these beauties pop up deep in the forest.
Your so welcome @redheadpei and have a great week ahead 😊

.With all of the wildflowers in bloom this time of year, a walk in the woods is always special.
That had to be very cool with a dad working as a Forest Ranger. With the appreciation I have developed over the past 20 years or so for the great outdoors, I could see that type of job being so fulfilling.
My father was a forest Ranger when I was younger. Being the oldest child I often went with him if it wa to relocate a beaver or something along that line. I heard stories of how he let someone off with just a warning if he caught them jacking a deer.
Dad instilled the love of the woods and animals in his children probably without realizing it. My youngest brother also became a Forest Ranger. Things are different now as they carried a gun.
Lady's sliiper! Very beautiful 🌸🌸🌸
Thanks @itsmiessyonpeakd. 🌸
Thanks Pix!
