Even though I am not willing to travel because..
Finally I have got the passport renewed which makes me travel ready. It got expired couple of years back, and I did not have much interest in renewing it, because, I did not have any interest for any International travel (which has further deteriorated because of Trump😀), but there are certain process in work place, which pushed me for a renewal. At this age, I am not willing to go abroad and learn cooking because outside food is almost extinct for me and they won't sponsor the visa of my wife. I will tell you the most fun part of this at the end, but before that, I must mention the details about the renew process.
If you do not know, then you can renew it easily within three years of expiry, so pay attention to that. I have already given a heavy price of not paying attention to my driving license renewal, unfortunately there is no notification system in these process to remind us in time, so we will have to create one for ourselves.
First you will have to fill an online application and pay the fee, I had trouble paying the fee (shared in this post, but finally it went through, after which I had to select a date from a 5 day windows that includes only working days - no Saturday, Sunday or Holiday. Then you will have to go to the Passport Seva Kendra where you have taken the appointment, for a physical verification. Earlier these offices were being managed by Government and used to be a big office at another place, but right now, this is entirely outsourced to TCS. Before going there, you must check what documents are required for Re-issue of Passport here :
https://services2.passportindia.gov.in/psp/docAdvisor/reissuePassport
For me it was not much, but the document list for Non-ECR categories was quite vague.
I did go with all possible documentation that I understood to be necessary, but then people standing in the queue started a discussion in which someone told me, I should have brought my original PAN card, and most likely they will reschedule my appointment. It's always a fun to talk to unknown people in such places, to pass the time, but don't listen to them and instead go and verify yourself with officials. TCS should have made the entry counter a little bigger, it was pretty small to handle the crowd in that slot. For my renewal, all they wanted is the Aadhar card, but a verified Aadhar - do you know what it is ? It's as simple as verifying your details and downloading it from the UIDAI website, but then they wanted a printed copy. Nowhere they mentioned about this and I had to go to the nearest shop outside of the building to get one. They have allowed someone to have a machine inside, that helps to get photocopies or print outs, but downloading aadhar was not possible there.
Taking advantage of this remote place, the person charged me 120 INR which was unjustified - he made a story of they paying charges to government for license to download and print, which did not go well with me, but in the interest of time I paid the price. But after coming, I have downloaded an electronic copy myself - it comes password protected, which is combination of first four letters of your name in CAPITAL letters and year of birth in YYYY format. There is also an option for masked Aadhar, which I have downloaded as well - who know, we may need them, so keep them handy. In case you can't remember the password, then you can print to PDF and have it without password protection, but make sure, you don't share in public as there are many scams happening now.
Inside everything is streamlined - they have got three counters A, B, C and your token name gets displayed once your turn comes. The entire process took a little less than an hour, and was quite satisfactory compared to the old government managed process.
A small Cafe Coffee day outlet with some nice beverages - Lemon tea was very refreshing.
The renewal process keeps sending updates by SMS and a police verification was initiated for which I had to go to the police station and show the Aadhar card to verify, but that was all. Within a week, all the process completed, and finally I have got the new Passport.
And now the most fun part - after seeing my passport the entire family is behind me to renew theirs - they want to go to Vietnam, after seeing one of my friend's trip photos. It's not very expensive - everyone is trying to convince me :) - We should have at least one International family trip..... Oh, really !!!

Never travel out the the country before but I hope some time in the future I will do my paper works and travel to several countries of my interest.
I think the renewal process of your country is easy. Over here, you will have to stress the hell out of yourself before you get it.
Even we had the same situation earlier, now they have outsourced entirely to TCS, so processing is much faster.
I need to get mine renewed at some point. I have a feeling they are just going to give me a new one because mine expired a long time ago. My wife needs to get hers too. Good luck with the trip planning. I hear Vietnam is a really cool place.
If it expired long back, then probably you will need to fill a fresh application. Vietnam seems to be a good place with affordable travel cost, but it will need everyone's passport ready. So need to work on that first, may be get ready for next winter.
Yes, I have a feeling you are right! There are some folks on HIVE that live in Vietnam and you are right the all say it is quite affordable.
Yes! I love international travel. Traveling to the USA from here barely felt like international travel and I would prefer someplace else even before the Trump madness.
There are a few hive folks in my network from Vietnam. 🇻🇳. Seems like a very interesting place for sure. There is nothing like a little new global perspective when traveling to new countries. One of the gifts I wish I could have given more of to my kids when they were young.
I will definitely connect with folks on this chain before I go.
The one I have followed the longest is @gooddream Go bowling with him!
Thank you so much for pointing to a trustworthy friend on chain, for sure, I will connect with him.
I have been to 69 countries, but not sure what will be number 70 or even when! I have not been to a new country since before Covid!
Looking forward to seeing your adventures when you all visit Vietnam!
Yes, most likely next year.
Haha, daddy has to take the whole family with him!!! It’s going to be a mini war if their requests are turned down, lol.
Congratulations on getting your passport renewed and good luck renewing the others, lol.
Not mini, it will be a big one - have to deal it cleverly and politely :)
Oh! I thought about that but I just wanted to be hopeful, lol. Well, I’m sure you will find a common ground with them.
Buen día amigo , te cuento tu país es una maravilla , Venezuela con tan solo 30 millones de habitantes renovar un pasaporte cuesta 200 $ americanos , las colas son horribles y te lo dan 3 meses después ...siempre es bueno tenerlo
$200 is a lot.
Es para evitar la migración de personas , ya van 10 millones de venezolanos por el mundo , aproximadamente 1/3 de la población , acá el salario mínimo no llega a 10$ americanos y la gente se va ..
They should fix the economy then.
I’ve not gone on an international trip with my family before but it’s going to be fun
I’m sure you will enjoy this trip
A complex process, my friend, but he was able to do it without any problems. Well, just because of the 120 INR charge for the copies he had to print, and with the trip, it seems like a good idea to get away from the daily routine.
Vietnam seems like a good choice so the whole family can have fun and it's always important to have your documents up to date.
Sir the way you told snf carried the passport renewal story it's very interesting to read...
I really enjoyed the sentence because I have experienced it.
Vietnam is a wonderful country so you should visit it alongside your family...
I am also reluctant to travel, but just renewed my passport a few months ago. I was going to fly to Philippines, but that didnt work out, so I am still here in hawaii.. although I will be moving to California soon..
😉✈️✌️
You're looking good and fresh man 😁 your family pushing for Vietnam after seeing those photos is great, I know about this experience, one trip picture and suddenly everyone needs a passport too haha
They keep pushing, once yes, their job is done :)
It's always an ordeal to go through these types of procedures, and there's always someone who takes advantage of the opportunity to get some benefit from the service. The good thing is that you were finally able to update your passport and have the new documentation.
Have a great day, dear friend @sanjeevm
I think the passport renewal process is difer from one country to another. Your own case comes without much stress, though, and there are some similarities. In a case where you had to pay some amount of money to someone to run that stuff for you eventhough it doesn't seem necessarily but you have to though since you don't want to pay the price of time.
Another thing I learned from your passport renewal process is the fact that it is always good to verify information from the right source without listening to the naysayers particularly unverified information.
But I think it is important to renew the passport when it expires because it can be used at any moment and that is why it is necessary.
Having an international family trip would really be fun 😊
I wish you success with all your procedure for the preparation. Wishing you safe trip
hahahaha.. it was really Fun part, better to have your first international trip with family... waiting for your vietnam post 😜😄
Pretty much similar to here, except we don't have that trouble with the paper you had to print, that was so annoying... Reschedule because of no print would have been so bad
Ya, they campaign on Go digital, but then they need paper copy, quite odd.
Getting passport renewed is a lot of work here. It takes weeks and months if we ain’t being careful
I wish you a safe trip
Everything is a process, my friend, but the good thing was that he was able to renew his passport and I hope his trip becomes a reality very soon with his entire family.
