“The important thing is not to get there but to go”
Robert Luis Stevenson

There are many phrases that are part of my life purpose, but all of them are related to each other and all of them have a marked life objective.

What is the phrase that identifies me?

This phrase is by the English writer Robert Louis Stevenson who, among other literary gems, bequeathed us Treasure Island, a must-consult work, to understand the meaning of that phrase that characterizes me.

The phrase in question is “The important thing is not to arrive but to go”.

There are several elements that I could use to explain why this phrase summarizes my life purpose, but here are the most important ones:

  • When I embark on a life project, I outline my goals, combine my possibilities and give myself to the challenge,
  • I never stop taking on what I want because of the risk of failure. I embark on the journey and try to enjoy it and achieve my goal. If by any chance I can't reach my goal, I learn lessons and try again.
  • More than once I have fallen in the process, but I got up and went back to my goal.
  • In the process of walking to the top I enjoy, I cry, I slip, I hold on and keep walking. It is true that I don't know if I will get there, but that is what life is all about: walking, laughing, crying, living, dying.

This phrase sums up much more than walking a road. It is the synthesis of happiness because many people think that happiness is the joy at the end of the road without knowing that this road to reach the end is part of happiness.

In that phrase is synthesized my meaning of happiness and what I have always tried to live with my wife in that which is called love.

I never thought I would be 27 years married to my wife. In that process of going and throwing ourselves into the adventure we learned and lived beautiful moments, ugly ones, we have had a lot, little or not at all.

But, we always keep going upwards, in search of human improvement and in that process of conquering all the joy possible because, in the end, that is what life is all about, going again and again, even if, supposedly, you think you don't get there because, every time you set out on a path you move forward.

What do you think?

@silverbloggers and @ericvancewalton invite us to reflect on a phrase that identifies us or is part of our philosophy of life and, it seems to me that it is a beautiful exercise and a permanent need for self-evaluation.

It's about the journey and not the destination.

The destination provides us the vision to choose the way. Nevertheless, it is the journey that gives us experience, that lead us to know the unknown, that provides the opportunity to explore the hidden aspects of life. Whether or not we reach the desired goal, the experience we get from the journey makes us wiser

It would be impossible to explain it better.
It is true that the most beautiful thing is the path and in that process we build or not the fulfillment of the objective. Thank you for improving the publication with this comment. Happy Thursday. Cheers and greetings.

This phrase is by the English writer Robert Louis Stevenson who

Noooooooooooooo... jeje

Robert Louis Stevenson es escocés...NO es inglés

He actually went to my school, Edinburgh Academy, when he was 11

Thank you very much.
I will correct this mistake that I have had all my life. Happy journey. Cheers and best regards.

jeje Scottish people do not like being called English!

Google says it is from the Kingdom of Great Britain, but it also says it is from Scotland.
I will look for more information so I don't make this kind of mistake.

hehe it is complicated, Scotland England and Wales make up Great Britain. However Scotland England and Wales are different countries.
It is like Brazil , Argentina and Chile are all in South American. But being South American does not necessarily mean you are from Argentina.
