When we are young, we all have dreams for our lives. Some we can achieve, while others remain unattainable. Often enough, however, we simply lose sight of them, and there comes a point in life when we ask ourselves, "What happened? Have I fulfilled all of my dreams?
Wir alle haben Träume für unser Leben, wenn wir jung sind. Die einen können wir uns erfüllen, während andere unerreichbar bleiben. Oft genug aber verlieren wir sie einfach aus den Augen und es kommt der Punkt im Leben, an dem wir uns fragen, was geschehen ist? Habe ich mir alle meine Träume erfüllt?
Have they lost their relevance or have life circumstances prevented their fulfillment? I have thought a lot about this and have come to the conclusion that I have been able to fulfill the most important of my dreams and am satisfied with my life. I am even happier when the dreams of people in my family environment take wings. My story starts in 2009.
Haben sie ihre Relevanz verloren oder haben die Umstände des Lebens ihre Erfüllung verhindert? Ich habe viel darüber nachgedacht und kam zu dem Ergebnis, dass ich mir die wichtigsten meiner Träume erfüllen konnte und zufrieden mit meinem Leben bin. Ich freue mich umso mehr, wenn die Träume der Menschen in meinem familiären Umfeld Flügel bekommen. Meine Geschichte beginnt im Jahr 2009.
After first I and later my brother moved out of my parents' house, I eventually moved to the village of my childhood, while my brother moved to the other end of town. My parents' house was about halfway between the two of us. Over the years, it had become a tradition for us to meet every Sunday for lunch at my parents' house. While I remained single but involved, my brother eventually got married. The result of this relationship was Jan. Jan was three years old at the time and loved airplanes more than anything.
Nachdem erst ich und später dann mein Bruder aus dem Haus meiner Eltern auszogen, verschlug es mich irgendwann in das Dorf meiner Kindheit, während mein Bruder ans andere Ende der Stadt zpg. Das Haus meiner Eltern lag ungefähr in der Mitte der Entfernung zwischen uns. Es hatte sich über die Jahre bei uns zur Tradition entwickelt, dass wir uns jeden Sonntag zum Mittagessen bei meinen Eltern trafen. Während ich ledig aber liiert blieb, heiratete mein Bruder irgendwann. Das Ergebnis dieser Beziehung hieß Jan. Jan war damals drei Jahre alt und liebte Flugzeuge über alles.
After dinner, he would run through the kitchen and living room with his colorful toy airplane, making a noise that resembled a "BWWWWWWWW". So summer came and the patio door to the garden was always wide open. Eventually he discovered that from the garden he could see the planes flying by at some distance, taking off or landing at the airport about 10 km away. Every time he heard an airplane, he would run out into the garden. He would grab my hand and pull me into the garden.
Nach dem Essen lief er immer mit seinem bunten Spielzeugflugzeug durch Küche und Wohnzimmer und machte ein Geräusch, dass an ein "BWWWWWWWWW" erinnerte. So kam der Sommer und die Terrassentür zum Garten war immer weit aufgeschoben. Irgendwann entdeckte er, dass er im Garten die in einiger Entfernung vorbeifliegenden Flugzeuge sehen konnte, die vom ungefähr 10 km entfernten Flughafen starteten oder landeten. Jedes Mal, wenn er ein Flugzeug hörte, lief er aufgeregt in den Garten. So kam es, dass er meine Hand fasste und mich in den Garten zog.

"Come on, quick! Plane!" he stretched his arm far into the sky and pointed with his index finger at the plane shining in the sun. "PFFFFFFFFFFFF" was the new sound, it was a jet after all. "You too! " he said. That's logical, such a plane usually has two engines. And so I stretched my arm far into the sky and pointed my index finger at the plane. "PFFFFFFFF"....
"Komm! Schnell! Flugzeug!"er streckte seinen Arm weit in den Himmel und deutete mit dem Zeigefinger auf das in der Sonne glänzende Flugzeug. "PFFFFFFFFFFFFFF"war das neue Geräusch, schließlich war es ein Düsenflugzeug. "Du auch! "Sagte er. Ist ja logisch, so ein Flugzeug hat ja auch in der Regel zwei Triebwerke. Und so streckte auch ich meinen Arm weit in den Himmel und deutete mit dem Zeigefinger auf das Flugzeug. "PFFFFFFFF"....
For the next two years, we ran into the backyard several times every Sunday. When I winked and said, "BWWWWWW," he looked at me indignantly and tapped his forehead to show me that I didn't know anything about airplanes.
In den nächsten zwei Jahren liefen wir jeden Sonntag mehrfach in den Garten. Wenn ich dann augenzwinkernd einmal "BWWWWWW"machte, dann sah er mich empört an und tippte sich naseweis mit dem Finger an die Stirn, um mir so zu zeigen, dass ich ja gar keine Ahnung von Flugzeugen habe.
The following year, he still ran into the garden when he heard an airplane, but he no longer dragged me out with him. Nor did he point at the plane anymore, and the sound had also disappeared. Instead, he watched the planes until he could no longer see them. One of those Sundays he came back from the garden, stood in front of us and said, "I want to fly airplanes."
Im darauffolgenden Jahr lief er immer noch in den Garten, wenn er ein Flugzeug hörte, aber er zog mich nicht mehr mit hinaus. Auch deutete er nicht mehr auf das Flugzeug und das Geräusch war ebenfalls verschwunden. Stattdessen sah er den Flugzeugen nach, bis er sie nicht mehr sehen konnte. An einem dieser Sonntage kam er aus dem Garten zurück, stellte sich vor uns und sagte: "Ich möchte Flugzeuge fliegen."
He knew he wanted to be a pilot. A commercial pilot. An airline captain. We encouraged him that he could be anything he wanted to be. All he had to do was not lose sight of his dream....
Für ihn war klar, er will Pilot werden. Verkehrspilot. Ein Flugkapitän. Wir bestärkten ihn, dass er alles erreichen könne, wenn er es nur wolle. Er dürfe nur seinen Traum nicht aus den Augen verlieren....

I had long forgotten this little episode until we sat together last Christmas and talked about it. Jan was now 16 years old and had not run into the garden for a long time. When we were talking about how excited he used to get at the sight of an airplane, he suddenly went "PFFFFF"......
Ich hatte diese kleine Episode schon längst vergessen, bis wir am vergangenen Weihnachten beisammen saßen und über diese Zeit sprachen. Jan war inzwischen 16 Jahre alt und lief schon lange nicht mehr in den Garten. Als wir darüber sprachen, wie aufgeregt er damals immer beim Anblick eines Flugzeuges war, machte er plötzlich "PFFFFF"......
Jan has learned to fly. In the pictures in this post, he is returning from a flight in his glider. "Fly! Fly towards your dreams! " I want to shout to him. And maybe I'll do the same when he flies again next week. Because then I will also be standing at the airport. And when he flies, I will stretch my arm far into the sky and point my finger at his plane.....

Jan hat Fliegen gelernt. Auf den Bildern in diesem Beitrag kehrt er von einem Flug in seinem Segelflugzeug zurück. "Flieg! Flieg deinen Träumen entgegen! "Möchte ich ihn zurufen. Und vielleicht mache ich das auch, wenn er nächste Woche wieder fliegt. Denn dann werde ich auch am Flugplatz stehen. Und wenn er dann fliegt, werde ich den Arm weit in den Himmel strecken und mit dem Finger auf sein Flugzeug deuten.....
