Hi everyone! It's great to be back here again. So, today I am delighted to take you to the birds that I found on the tree near the rice field. When I headed to the north part of the field, I noticed some of these birds seemed to enjoy their afternoon time up here. I decided to stop and tried to take a few photos from a distance range while making sure they did not notice me taking their pictures.
These are best known as Blue-tailed Bee-eaters (Merops philippinus), the name that refers to their slender tail in a striking blue color and because its main diet includes insects such as wasps and hornets but mostly bees, which are caught in mid-air. As the name suggests, these birds mostly feed on bees or insects on perch. The Blue-tailed Bee-eater breeds in sub-tropical open country like parks, rice fields, and farmland but it can be frequently seen near large water bodies.
This species is sometimes considered to be conspecific with the Blue-cheeked Bee-eater, M. persicus (of, or belonging to, the same species).source
