When I think of colorful birds in Austria I can mention the Bee Eaters, kingfishers and the European roller, the last one I havn't seen till now but I plan to visit Styria in Austria and maybe I can find some of the Rollers that live there. But since I know several spots where the bee eaters breed I was already lucky and could take some pictures of these birds several times.
The Bee Eaters are one of the most colorful birds that can be found here in Austria and now in Late spring and during the summer they spend their live on some breeding spots here in Austria and I am happy that I already found a few of them and could take several pictures of these beautiful birds. They Like hunting for insects and have some spots in the tree branches where they chill out and rest from a tyring hunting trip. From a hidden spot I am able to get pretty close to them without disturbing them. These birds are really good insect hunters and they can catch bees, flies and dragonflies in the Air. Because their flight manouvers can be really exhausting they often rest on different trees or shrubs that are a bit exposed. These spots are the perfect places where I try to take the pictures of these birds.
There are also other birds living there in the sand dunes. For example I found some starlings and also some kestrels living there.
