Christmas Frigatebird and The Fishermen

Hi..this is my first story and pictures after several times @iqbalnindol encouraged me.

It's not easy for me to tell a story, but I'll try.

The first post is about my favourite bird species, a type of seabird called the Christmas Frigatebird. This species breeds on Christmas Island in Australia. This bird is endangered species. They use Indonesian waters to find food and rest. It is also an opportunity for the adults to teach the juvenile individual to find food.

At that time, on a cloudy morning, some of my friends and I were conducting research in Jakarta Bay, Indonesia. Jakarta Bay is in the north of the island of Java. Since 2009, we have been using this bay to conduct research to record the presence of seabirds.

What's interesting about Jakarta Bay is that we can observe Christmas Frigatebirds all year round, so I can freely observe their behaviour.

It is also one of the busiest bays as a transport route for ships to and from the island of Java.

Well, one of the things I would like to share with you is the behaviour of the frigatebirds when they are looking for fish.

This is when I saw a female Christmas frigatebird perched on a traditional fishing gear called a sero. The individual was observing a group of terns and other individual Christmas frigatebirds gathered near a vessel lifting nets with full of small fish.

Shortly after, the female approached the group. With a wingspan of two metres, she lifted her body and looked dashing. She flew between the group to see if there were any fish left for it.

It is not easy for the Christmas Frigatebird to take fish that are not on the surface. Christmas Frigatebirds do not have many oil glands, so if they fall into the water they will not be able to fly until their feathers are dry.

She also has to look at the fish net as it's being pulled so that it doesn't hit any part of his body and cause her to get caught.

She came over as soon as she saw there were fish to catch on the surface.

With its distinctive pink beak, the fish can be taken from the surface.

Its wings can prevent its body from falling into the water. After catching a fish, the frigatebird flies away from the water and enjoys the fish.

So that was my first story. I hope you like it and vote for it.

We will continue with the story of the beauty of Indonesia's nature and species. Follow my journey.
