I only had my 70-200mm lens with me on this day and the island and the cormorants were unfortunately a bit too far away. A few days later I went there again at about the same time, but there was neither fog nor cormorants at the lake. | Ich hatte an diesem Tag nur mein 70-200mm Objektiv dabei und die Insel beziehungsweise die Kormorane sind leider doch etwas zu weit weg gewesen. Ein paar Tage später bin ich um etwa die selbe Zeit nochmals dorthin gefahren, aber weder gab es Nebel, noch waren Kormorane am See. |

For this reason, I first show the photos from last Sunday. Because of the fog, the photos look softer and somehow have a painterly effect, at least in my humble view. | Aus diesem Grund zeige ich zuerst die Fotos vom letzten Sonntag. Since there were no cormorants at the lake, I do know a place not far away where I've always seen some of these big birds: trees on the opposite side of the reservoir. | Nachdem am See keine Kormorane zu sehen gewesen sind, weiß ich aber nicht weit entfernt einen Ort, wo ich bis jetzt immer einige dieser großen Vögel gesehen habe: Bäume auf der gegenüberliegenden Seite des Stausees. |

The birches and a few neighboring trees apparently serve as a meeting place for the birds, because there were many cormorants each time. Most of these black birds have been sitting in the surrounding trees and some on the birches. The distance to the other side of the reservoir was also almost too far for my 150-600mm lens to take hand held photos, and because of the relatively dark background, the black birds are quite difficult to recognize. | Die Birken und ein paar Nachbarbäume dienen den Vögeln anscheinend als Versammlungsplatz, denn jedes Mal waren dort viele Kormorane. Die meisten der schwarzen Vögel sind in den umliegenden Bäumen gesessen und einige auf den Birken. Die Entfernung bis zur anderen Stauseeseite war auch für mein 150-600mm Objektiv fast zu weit, um aus der Hand zu fotografieren, und wegen dem relativ dunklen Hintergrund kann man die schwarzen Vögel nur schwer, aber doch erkennen. |

Otherwise, the birches and the other trees are mostly full of birds. | Die Versammlung schien gerade zu Ende gegangen zu sein, als ich mit meiner Kamera angekommen bin, denn viele der Vögel sind in dem Moment weggeflogen, und nur ein paar sind hocken geblieben. Sonst sind die Birken meistens vollbesetzt von Vögeln. |

This happens very often to me too. Birds are sitting right in front of me in a tree and as soon as I take the camera they fly away to the next tree and wait there 😉

in days of old there was !COFFEEA and !BEER, but no internet of cell phones, nor a !MARLIANS !shop the kids of today would think that was quite !DERANGED
A few weeks ago during a walk there was a woodpecker on the tree next to me, perfectly posing for a nice photo. I watched him a while. I had my camera with the 70-200 in my hand, but as soon as I moved my hand up the bird hopped on a granch behind the tree and then he flew away ... no, it's not only you ;)

I had a similar thing with an eagle here, I spent close to an hour walking back and forth along the beach as it flew back and forth just out of range, I never got a good shot of it

I am surprised to see cormorans in the winter time in the Alps. I always thought that this birds migrate south for winter.Great photos @johannpiber, beautifully soft,as you describe that yourself. And you right they're looks like paintings.

I do not know, if they just meet there and fly to the south later, or if they stay, but I have seen them there last year too, so they might as well stay over the winter.

Guten Morgen. 6.30 Uhr. Frau ist arbeiten und ich bin dann Frühaufsteher.
Frisch ist es heute früh. knapp 14 Grad nur und das ist definitiv zu kalt für diese Jahreszeit. Lange Hosen und ne Jacke sind keine Sommerklamotten. So viel zur Klimaerwärmung.
Hoffe bei Dir ist das Wetter besser und Du findest das was Du suchst.

Ich arbeite heute den ganzen Tag und das Wetter wäre regnerisch, wenn es nicht so kalt wäre, weshalb es leicht schneit, aber so leicht, dass es wahrscheinlich ein paar Tage dauern würde, bis der Boden weiß wäre ;)
Suchen tue ich heute eigentlich nur einen ruhigen Tag im Büro, an dem ich alles erledigen kann, wozu ich während der Arbeitswoche nicht komme ;)

Ich könnte zwar auch Zeitausgleich dafür nehmen, zumindest für einen Teil, aber ich habe genügend Plusstunden und gerade mal einen Tag Urlaub vom Vorjahr verbraucht.

It was a beautiful, calm and peaceful morning there at this lake. The hoarfrost and the fog have painted such a nice picture and all I had to do was to press the shutter button 😉

Ha! Those birds were smart to fly when they saw you coming sir johannpiber! Most creatures do don't they? What are those things, are they fishing birds? They look to be the size of a hawk or eagle?
They are very big, bigger than hawks and they are called Cormorants. Yes, they are fishing birds as far as I know.
I think I arrived there just when they have finished their meeting and only the bosses stayed for some small talk ;) lol

lol...the bosses sat around complaining about how stupid and lazy their people are! That would be great to see those big things catch some fish, why don't you photograph that activity next time?
You said it and I meant it, bu tI didn't want to write it ;)
Wildlife photography needs patient photographers, and my patience lasts 5 or 10 minutes, sometimes even half an hour, but I cannot sit and wait for hours day after day, just to finally get one good shot.
But maybe next time when I'm on vacation at my parent's house I'll take my time and try some wildlife photography again.
A !BEER has to be cold to taste good 😉
I don't know if I would have the patience for that or not either, I have never tried it but it sounds kinda hard!
If I know the deer will come out of the woods for sure, then I might have the patience to wait, but if I cannot be sure whether it comes today or tomorrow or even later, then I won't have the patience I think ;)
