Brightlycolouredbeautiful variety of birds

The Nicaraguan Scarlet Macaw is a large colourful parrot found in Nicaragua. You cannot tell the males and females apart as they look the same. You can distinguish between the young and older birds by the colour of their eyes. The young birds have dark eyes and the older ones have light yellow eyes. They have a prominent red or scarlet colour with light blue feathers on their tails.

Fact: They are highly sought after in the pet trade and therefore are part of an endangered species.

Southern white faced owls are found in Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mocambique and north east of South Africa. They are strictly nocturnal birds of prey. As a defence mechanism they puff out their feathers to change their apparent size

Fun fact : When in danger they can flatten their bodies and camouflage themselves against a tree trunk.

How exquisite and diverse are all these feathered friends

Back to Holland soon and the beautiful spring tulips everywhere

This is the last of my bird series. I certainly learned a lot through the experience and I can highly recommend a trip to this beautiful place in sunny South Africa.

Looking forward to sharing more adventures with you. Thank you for reading my posts.
