There aren't many tropical birds in BC, but thanks to the magic of brute engineering, we can keep a few of them in near-tropical conditions within a geodesic dome.
The white bird is perched on the branch near the center
This geodesic dome should be an inspiration for those who wish to go live on Mars. This bird is terrestrial, or areal to be precise, and when it spreads its wings, you see some rather lordly and elegant black bands.
It's perching on the upper left
I don't know what kind of bird this is. It appears to be some type of dove, but it was somewhat larger than your average dove. Please drop a comment if you recognize it. Thank you for visiting.
I love me a good bio dome. Have you ever seen the Eden Project in the UK?
That's a cool initiative. I wish I had gone to a biosphere school like that growing up. It fires up the imagination and allows you to experience the actual subject matter first hand. I'm a big fan of "nutrionist" Roy Walford, who was a scientist in the biosphere 2 project. Although the project was mired in controversy, they learned a lot about keeping plants alive in an enclosed space.
I do wonder how animals in a biodome feel about being in there. Are they like: what the heck is this place, Disneyland? 😆
I knew where you went before I even opened the post. We used to love to go there and hang out with Kramer. I hope he said hi:)
I haven't been there in many years, so I took the opportunity last month. It's an incredible place, and the birds surprised me because I don't remember seeing that much variety before. Is Kramer one of the resident birds?
Kramer is the pink cockatoo. He was rescued from a frat house; apparently he swears sometimes. I think they started rescuing birds awhile back. When I was a kid they did not have as many birds.
Cool! A swearing cockatoo I'll have to peruse through my pics to see if he's there. 😄
The shots are stunning, l do not know the exactly name of that bird, l am sticking around to see what's the name, regard.
Thank you. It is a unique place.
You are welcome.
I don't know the bird but it is beautiful! Besides white which I love and the ideal place for it. Beautiful captures!
This bird blends very nicely with the surroundings. It looked majestic when flying.
It was great to meet her and see her, beautiful!
