REAL LIFE STORY THE LAMP CHICKS
This time I bring you the story of three bird chicks, inspired by the originality of their birth: JOM, YAM and JIM, that's how I named them.

Esta vez les traigo la historia de tres pichones de pájaros, inspirada está en la originalidad de su nacimiento: JOM, YAM y JIM, así les bauticé
These are born in a lamp, which has frontal and lateral openings that are hanging in the entrance hall of a quiet and warm house where my husband and I live.
Estos nacen en una lámpara, la cual tiene unas aberturas frontales , laterales que se encuentra colgante en el pasillo de la entrada de una tranquila y cálida casa donde vivimos mi esposo, y yo.
Indifferently we saw a little bird carrying a straw in its beak every afternoon towards the bottom of the lamp and without realizing it in a matter of a few weeks there was already a nest built. We thought about undoing it, but we kept putting it off, so when we decided to take out the nest we were surprised to find that there were three little eggs, dismayed we looked at each other with an expression on our faces of "what can we do?" It was too late to even think about getting rid of the eggs
De manera indiferente nosotros veíamos una pajarita transportando una pajita en el pico todas las tardes hacia fondo de la lámpara y sin darnos cuenta en cuestión de pocas semanas ya había un nido construido. Pensamos en deshacerlo, pero le fuimos dando larga al asunto, es así que cuando decidimos sacar el nido nos encontramos con la sorpresa de que habían tres huevitos,consternados
nos miramos con una expresión en nuestras caras de ¿ qué podemos hacer? ya era demasiado tarde ni siquiera pensar en deshacernos de los huevos.
Week after week we watched the little bird inside the lamp incubate her eggs in a disciplined and patient manner, until finally they hatched, giving birth to these three chicks, which she and another little bird fed day after day. The chicks grew at the same pace as our concern about the size of the space that was getting smaller and smaller to contain them, and also that it was becoming more and more difficult for the little bird to get in to feed them.
Semanas a semanas vimos a la pajarita dentro de la lámpara empollar sus huevos de manera disciplinada y paciente, hasta que finalmente estos eclosionaron naciendo estos tres pichones, a los que ella y otro pajarito alimentaban día a día. Los pichones crecían al mismo ritmo de nuestra preocupación por el tamaño del espacio que cada vez era más chico para contenerlos, y además que cada vez era más difícil la entrada de la pajarita para alimentarlos.
The self-fulfilling prophecy arrived that day, we noticed that the little bird was no longer coming, and it was then that my husband and I, anxious, thinking that the little birds were going to die, or were already dead, intervened, we took apart the lamp, finding the
pleasant surprise that the chicks were alive, and in good condition, but already too big for the space, they definitely had to be taken out and that was what we did.
La Profecía auto cumplida, llego ese día, observamos que ya la pajarita no venía, y fue ahí que angustiados mi esposo, y yo, pensando que los pajaritos iban a morir, o ya estaban muertos intervenimos, desarmamos la lámpara, encontrándonos con la agradable sorpresa que los pichones estaban vivos, y en buen estado, pero ya muy grandes para el espacio, había que definitivamente sacarlos y eso fue lo que hicimos.
Once the excitement was over, uncertainty and the logical questions came: What are we going to do with these little animals? How are we going to feed them? What are we going to give them? What if the mother doesn't show up? What if she shows up, but doesn't want them anymore? (because that's how some animals behave, rejecting the human scent).
Pasada la emoción llegó la incertidumbre y las preguntas lógicas y ahora ¿qué vamos hacer con estos animalitos? ¿Cómo alimentarlos? ¿Qué darles? ¿Y si la madre no aparece? ¿y si aparece, pero ya no los quiere ? (porque así se comportan algunos animales rechazando el olor humano) .
We brought our new guests inside, with their dilapidated nest we placed it in a container, and what we thought of to feed them was to give them papaya, with the problem that only one, the biggest one, JOM, was the only one who opened his beak, so we could give him a little. The middle one, YAM, only opened his wings, and the smallest one, JIM, was curled up and indifferent to the situation.
Llevamos adentro a nuestros nuevos huéspedes , con su nido destartalado lo colocamos en un recipiente, y lo que se nos ocurrió para alimentarlos fue darles lechoza , con el problema que solo uno el más grande , JOM, era el único en abrir el pico, a este se le pudo dar un poquito. El mediano YAM solo abría las alas, y el más pequeño, JIM, estaba acurrucadito e indiferente ante la situación.
We went to sleep with the expectation of what was going to happen the next day, what a mess we had gotten ourselves into. Very early in the morning we insisted on feeding them, but without success. I decided to take them out into the hallway to see how their motor development was going. There I had to run after JOM and JAM, who were opening their wings trying to take flight. I had no choice but to grab them and put them in a cardboard box and put them on a úcaro tree that is in the garden parallel to the hallway where the lamp where they were born is.
Nos fuimos a dormir con la expectativa de que iba a pasar ese siguiente día, en que lío nos habíamos metido. Muy temprano en la mañana infructuosamente insistimos en alimentarlos, se me ocurrió sacarlos al pasillo a ver cómo estaba su madurez motriz, ahí me tocó correr detrás de JOM, y JAM, que abrían sus alas tratando de alzar vuelo, no me quedó otra que agarrarlos y meterlos en una caja de cartón , y montarlos en un árbol de úcaro que se encuentra en el jardín paralelo a el pasadizo donde está la lámpara donde ellos nacieron.
The hope that the mother would arrive became a reality, because in a matter of minutes we saw the little bird arrive at the úcaro tree and she gladly received and retrieved her children, and she and other birds of the same species began to guard the box in such a way that they threatened to peck us if we approached the place.
La esperanza de que llegara la madre , se hizo realidad, porque en cuestión de minutos vimos llegar a la pajarita al árbol de úcaro y gustosamente recibió y recuperó a sus hijos, y ella con otros pájaros de la misma especie empezaron a custodiar la caja de tal manera que amenazaban con picotearnos si nos acercábamos al lugar.
After this, a new stage began. The bird and her companions began to train the chicks to fly. The first one to succeed was of course JOM, the largest. They quickly took him away. Then, a day later, JAM, leaving JIM, the smallest, who took several days to be able to fly, but with the patience and insistence of his mother and the rest of the community that had joined in the work, he succeeded. After falling out of the box several times, I had to participate in the rescue.
Luego de esto inició una nueva etapa, la pajarita y sus acompañantes empezaron a a entrenar a los pichones para el vuelo, el primero que lo logró fue por supuesto JOM, el más grande , ese rápido se lo llevaron, luego un día más tarde JAM, quedando JIM, el más pequeño quien tardó varios días para poder volar ,pero con la paciencia e insistencia de su madre y el resto de la comunidad que se había sumado a la labor lo logró, luego de caer varias veces de la caja, teniendo yo que participar en el rescate.
My last intervention was to put him on the treetop of an oregano plant that is in the garden. I left him there. When I returned from work, I realized that he was no longer there. A feeling of tranquility invaded my spirit. JIM was already with his brothers.
Mi última intervención fue montarlo en el copo una mata de oreganito que se encuentra en el jardín, allí lo dejé, al regresar de mi trabajo me di cuenta que ya no estaba , una sensación de tranquilidad invadió mi espíritu, JIM ya estaba con sus hermanos.
That was the end of our little story with these chicks. The first few days I would go to observe the úcaro tree with the hope of recognizing in some of the little birds that were there JOM, JAM and JIM, the lamp's chicks.
Ese fue el final de nuestra pequeña historia con estos pichones. Los primeros días iba a observar el árbol de úcaro con la ilusión de reconocer en algunos de los pajaritos que ahí se encontraban a JOM, JAM Y a JIM .los pichones de la lámpara.
This experience allows me to reflect on the animal world, the behavior for the preservation of the species, among the reasons why the little bird chooses the lamp to give life to its little birds, I think I interpret a situation that I do not narrate, and it is the fact of the presence of eagles stalking the trees in the area because the urbanization in which the house is located is surrounded by mountains, The lamp was a safe place where no predator of this type would endanger the chick.
Esta experiencia me permite reflexionar sobre el mundo animal, el comportamiento para la preservación de la especie, entre las razones de porqué la pajarita escoge la lámpara para dar vida a sus pajaritos, creo interpretar una situación que no narre, y es el hecho de la presencia águilas acechando los árboles de la zona debido a que está la urbanización en la que se encuentra la casa está rodeada de montañas, la lámpara fue un lugar seguro donde ningún depredador de este tipo llegaría a poner en peligro la cría.
The other interesting element was the union of this community of birds of the same species to take care of these chicks, this was manifested by their strategic and threatening position every time we approached the úcaro tree.
El otro elemento interesante lo constituyó, la unión de esta comunidad de pájaros de su misma especie para cuidar estos pichones, esto se manifestaba al ubicarse de manera estratégica y amenazante cada vez que nos acercábamos al árbol de úcaro.
Definitely, the intelligence of nature is great, surprising and gives us life lessons if we know how to observe and appreciate.
Definitivamente la inteligencia de la naturaleza es grandiosa, sorprendente y nos da lecciones de vida si sabemos observar y apreciar.
