Feathered Friday and Some News

in Feathered Friends3 years ago (edited)

Thanks god it is Friday. A pretty stressful week comes to its end. Stressful at work, despite it is a holiday season, we keep on having tons of work and I have little time for bird watching.

Still I managed some shots to share. Some may even be from previous week.

Starting with the newest from yesterday. I was looking at the sky hoping the eagle to return as I missed the chance earlier. Three noisy magpies passed by and stopped on the roof. Got one of them close. It is the closest image by far. What suprised me was the eyes. I did not expect to see the light patches around them.

Magpie

It kept on calling and did not stay much longer.

The raptors are always here. All you need is to keep your eyes peeled.

Kestrel

Since I knew that the kestrel family is a resident of our neighbourhood, it is not surprising to see it hovering every day and not just once. This bird has the ability to hover at one place, rapidly flapping wings. It reminds me of helicopter.

Sometimes I can hear its call but not very often. It is just a habit to look at the sky all the time and to see it or the eagle.

Greenfinch

Some birds love to stay on the same tree singing, like this one. It is so loud that you cannot miss to see it. And it prefers the top branches.

You get get an idea about its size compared to the cones.

Jackdaw
I think jackdaws are as clever as the crows and magpies. In search of new birds I often neglet them. They are curious and noisy. What I could not photograph but watched with great interest was how a flock of jackdaws chased an eagle.

Here are but few shots from another day. See how curious is this one.

This must be young bird.

Redstart

The next photos are from my workplace and factory yard. Redstarts are common, but I have seen them only there.

Swift

This year we have exceptional large number of swifts. Obviously they found the concrete blocks of flats ideal for nesting. Well, I could be wrong. It could be another reason, but whatever it is, they are constantly flying above us. Very difficult to have a clear shot. But, lucky me, I got one. I went to see the doctor early one morning and the flock of swifts were flying low alongside the clinic in circles.

Some people wrongly put the swifts in the same group as the swallows, but they are completely different species.

Nightingale

And I will end up with the most atractive singer, although it has not attractive appearance. But it is cute, isn't it? This is juvenile and we see it often at one and the same place. There is mulberry tree and a shrub next to it, where I suspect the nest is.

So, this is all for today. Some of the photos can be found on my Facebook or Birds in Bulgaria Facebook group.

What lovely pictures. It's quite possible in our search for the exotic we miss the common.
I am sure you can write great stories, just give it a shot.
Thanks for the mention and the reminder.

Great photos. Love them all. You are so fortunate to have a place of work so near all these wonderful feathered friends. It's a great stress reliever.

It is indeed my escape from the reality. My dog and cats helped a lot to get relaxed but bird watching is equally a stress relief.
