The Hawk

in Feathered Friends4 years ago

I have never thought that I will be seeing so many and different birds in our residential area. The ugly concrete blocks of flats attract only pigeons, seagulls and jackdaws. However, being in a suburbs, we are close to the woods and there my guess is where all the raptors are hiding. They appear almost at the same time in the sky causing chaos among the other birds. First sign is flock of pigeons suddenly lifting up and flying to and fro. And the shrieking seagulls who not only warn but chase the raptors, a behaviour that was strange to me. I read that it is called mobbing and even small birds can mob bigger ones in protection of their territory.

It is hard to make a decent photo of the hawk or buzzard when they are hovering high above. Relying only to be on the right spot at the right time when the bird is within the range of my lens. And by far, these are probably the best photos I have of a hawk. The bird was not very high and I got some details.

The thing is that the hawk made few circles before flying away. And it is fast, I can tell you.

When I see the hawk I think about how well this bird can see what is on the ground. An eye of a hawk. I wonder if the bird sees me with the camera pointed at the sky following it.

I may have a chance to see it much closer. I wish to be able to get more details.

What surprised me is that each day hawks and buzzards hover above our area and sometimes we see bigger raptors who might be eagles. I have no photo of eagle yet, but that would be a nice addition to my photo collection.

hello dear friend @nelinoeva good afternoon
What a beautiful collection of birds, it is true what you say, small birds can be ferocious when they are taking care of their territory and much more when there are chicks in the nest.
I appreciate you sharing these beautiful photographs and your information
have a splendid afternoon

Thank you so very much for your kind comment.
Glad you enjoyed my photos of the hawk.

Nice shots of the Hawks in flight. One of my next projects to catch! We have several not far away, I just need some nice weather to get out and catch some!

Thank you for your comment. ☺
I am sure you will catch and show us soon photos of your hawk. I am looking forward.

Beautiful shots.. 💕

Thank you! Glad you like them.. ☺

Those are really good photos. There are the same hawks where I live. I've never been able to catch a good photo of one. Every time there's been a good shot, my camera was never with me. I've noticed the hawks are often in pairs. I've watched them hunt pigeons. The closest I've been to one was about 3 metres, directly in front of me, as it took out a pigeon in mid flight. I love to watch them every time I get the opportunity. I was so excited to see your photos of hawks because I know how hard it is to get shots like you have.

Thank you very much for stopping by and leaving your comment.
You are right, often they are in pairs hunting. Once I missed what I think was a hawk just taking off with a prey very close to me. Hubby watched and managed several shots of another hawk eating a pigeon on the rooftop of the neighbouring block. It is facinating to watch them gliding in the sky.
!ENGAGE 25

It's like stepping out of time for however many moments, whenever I watch hawks wheeling in the sky. I look forward to seeing more!

You need to have 1000 ENGAGE, in order to use this service.

I'm not sure what you mean. I read what ENGAGE is but not sure what service you are referring to.

Sorry about that, I had not enough tolkens to be able to send ENGAGE tolkens. :-(

No worries, I enjoyed your post. That's what matters most to me. 😃

Thanks! Much appreciated! ☺

You did get some lovely shots of this beautiful flying Hawk one bird i love 👍

I was lucky the hawk was low and I could capture it. Usually it flies too high for my lens.

You got to be lucky some times don't we wish we had a better camera at times.

Have a great weekend bird hunting @nelinoeva 👍

Oh, definitely I wish to have better camera, something I am considering to look for in near future.

It is a new experience watching birds of prey flaying above my head.
This banner is just perfect to let people know about the ecency points tip.

Thanks! I am hoping Ecency will eventually design something for us to use when we award POINTS, but this was my temporary solution for now. I'm glad you think it works OK.
