Even after a busy day it is always worth trying to find a piece of bush or nature reserve and enjoying a stroll as you never know what you might find. @consciouscat had been hearing some strange but familiar bird noises from our tourist park accommodation. Eventually after we were organised and settled in we were able to go for a short walk, Goggle had indicated a large amount of confusing single track and fire trails we could explore in the Bruce Ridge Reserve. We decided upon just a short two kilometres or so as it was only a almost dusk and we would just turn left at all the junctions so we didn't have to navigate.
Not far in Caroline sees where the noises she had heard earlier were coming from. She grew up where these type's of birds were common, but I had never seen one.
Four Gang Gang Cockatoo's. The males have a bright red head and the females completely black.
In this particular tree there appeared to be a nesting hole and a black female and it's mate seemed to be fighting off a couple of other red headed males. Quite a bit of action and sound with lots of small branches and leaves all scattered on the trail below.
All of the movement and being about 10 metres up in the tree make it difficult to get a decent photo on my s21 Samsung camera phone but try I did.
The Bruce Ridge Nature Reserve wedged in by some of Canberra's busy motorways located in Australia Capital City.
