Walking and birds spotting Week 13

in Feathered Friends4 years ago

Hello feathered friends.

This is week 13 of my weekly walking and birds spotting diary. All photos were taken in the period from March 25 to April 1. Again I'll share with you photos of different bird species around the place I live in.

It seems that it can finally be said that spring has begun. The days are longer with higher temperatures. There is no more strong wind like the previous week, nor was there any precipitation. They are expected during the next week.

Due to other obligations, I was not able to walk every day, but I still managed to notice a large number of birds in just 4 days.

I have documented 23 different bird species, of which one is completely new.

Tree sparrows

They completely moved to the settlement for nesting. Although they can be seen gathering feathers and twigs during the day, they are mainly focused on making nests, mostly in the holes of various houses.

House sparrows

In the first picture, you can see a very strange way of showing this male's love for his female by keeping her with his leg. But around females, there are almost always a few males lurking for their opportunity.

Common wood pigeon

It is very difficult to spot a pair. The main reason is probably that the females have started laying eggs.
Mostly I come across lonely birds resting in the treetops.

Rock pigeon

The situation is almost the same with rock pigeons and other wild pigeons.

Magpies

I guess this was a weekly meeting with interior design being the main item on the agenda.

Eurasian collared doves

Unlike pigeons, these birds are mostly found in pairs. They are usually hidden in the treetops somewhere around the middle.

Rooks

This week I've spotted only one bird in flight in the distance, most likely carrying a nut in its beak.

Hooded crow

Still no changes in behavior or where they usually stay.

Long-eared owls

I'm still lucky, so sometimes I come across one or two birds. They will definitely leave soon and will not return until September.

Common kestrel

Only one day I managed to spot this bird hovering above the field. I meet the common buzzards and common kestrels, less and less in my walks.

Eurasian marsh harrier

It is a completely new bird species that I haven't seen before. I've noticed it twice in 4 days.

Eurasian goldfinch

Almost every day I notice them singing their song on the tops of tall birches. They are usually found in groups, but they can also be noticed individually.

European greenfinch

Their number is quite large, and I often meet them in various places. These are mostly coniferous trees on the outskirts of the settlement.

Great tit

I don't have to walk far to notice this bird. It is enough for me to walk a few steps in my backyard. Next week I will pay more attention to her and take better photos.

Blue tit

For this species of bird, I still have to walk a few kilometers because it is mostly found in the woods, near the pond.

Woodpecker

I still find them quite easily. The number of names does not change nor does the location. I often see them in my backyard, searching the trees in search of food.

Starling

One of the favorite places to observe the environment is the transmission line. Like Eurasian collared doves, they are often found there.

Mallards

A nearby pond is a place where I can currently find them at almost any time of the day. They are mostly in pairs, but sometimes a lone male can be encountered.

Muscovy duck

I try not to post often poultry and birds that people keep as pets. But this species of duck walks freely on the streets and is quite interesting. Especially since they raise feathers on their heads if they feel upset.

Northern lapwing

This week I found another location where I can be found. I wish I could get closer to them, but they just don't let me.

Black redstart

Males and females can be found equally. They usually sing from the tops of trees or roofs.

European robin

I noticed this beautiful bird again near the place where I first saw it. Unfortunately, it was now sheltered in the depths of the forest by branches. Somehow I managed to take a photo after several failed attempts.

Kinglet

They are still almost imperceptible in the dense canopy of conifers. Sometimes it just springs up for a moment.
