Here are some more winter feeder shots for this #featheredfriday by @melinda010100
Here is a cardinal scoping out the main feeder looking for his chance to get some sunflowers.
The only problem is there is a squirrel hogging the feeder. The cardinal has to be brave and sneak around the other side to get as many seeds as possible before the squirrel starts barking at him.
Eventually he got scared off the feeder and had to scavenge seeds on the ground under the feeder.
Now he is back up in the tree plotting his return to the feeder.
Now the cardinal is being difficult for me not posing nicely out in the open.
The copper headed cow birds and sparrows are also on the ground scavenging seeds. They don't seem to like going directly to the feeders as larger birds and squirrels are there to fight over territory.
The downy woodpeckers are adept at sniping the feeders for one seed at a time to avoid any territorial disputes.
I didn't get too many clear chickadee photos just this one with a blurry head. They flutter around too fast.
The dark eyed juncos seemed to only stay under the feeders to avoid drama above. Fortunately the clumsy squirrel was spilling a lot of the seeds below.
I also saw a bald eagle up in the sky, sadly the photo didn't turn out too clear. I'll have to find a river that isn't frozen over to see if there are some eagles hunting for fish.
That's all for now, thanks for looking :-)
Thanks @brumest :-)
Loved the cardinal shots. :))
They are usually the most aggressive ones at the feeders but this time the squirrel thwarted them.
Geez, I thought blue jays had that title....
Yeah they are definitely more aggressive, this time around they weren't at the feeder. I wish they were as I don't have very many good pictures of blue jays.
very beautiful color of the cardinal bird,, and I am very interested in the picture you show next time,, I will wait for new episodes about cardinals,,??? waiting my friend...
His bright red color really stands out in winter. Cardinals are the state bird here and many schools use them as their sports mascot here.
The photos of the first bird are just gorgeous!
I was lucky to line up an evergreen tree behind him to accent the red color.
Really lucky! Great shots!
Beautiful photos. I wonder what kind of lens you use? Our ranch is so rich in birds that I should start photographing them.
Yeah you need a decent zoom lens. My camera is an old Olympus DSLR with a 200mm zoom lens plus an extension ring on it to make it zoom a bit further. I'm sure the more modern olympus/zukio lenses would be way better by now.
That's what I thought. Mine is a Nikon and max I can go is 105 =/
Is your Nikon a dslr that can fit different lenses? Odds are the body is better than my olympus, you just need a decent off brand zoom lens.
The first shot of the cardinal is just WOW. Flawless you can say, great job on that one. 🥃
I was lucky to have the sun beaming down on it with the evergreen background behind him.
That's the case then haha. All in all, great shots. Job well done. 🥃
Normally the cardinals don't cooperate with me too well, hiding in the branches like in the other shots, or they fly away right as the lens is focused on them.
Damn, pretty active birds I guess or shy maybe.
