Black-headed Bulbul | Brachypodius melanocephalos | Aceh, Sumatra, Indonesia |
Hi guys, this time I am posting a bird species from the Pycnonotidae family, namely the Black-headed Bulbul. This bulbul species is one of the tropical songbirds that is easily recognized thanks to its striking appearance. This bird has a jet black head, a bright yellow body, and prominent eyes with bluish white irises. The contrasting color combination makes it one of the most beautiful birds in its distribution area.
This bird is found in various regions of South and Southeast Asia, including Sumatra, Kalimantan, and the Malaysian Peninsula. They live in lowland forests, mangrove forests, to forest edges that are disturbed by human activities. Black-headed Bulbul is often seen in dense trees, either alone or in small groups.
As a fruit-eating bird (frugivore), Black-headed Bulbul plays an important role in spreading plant seeds in the forest. In addition to fruit, they also eat small insects, making them an important part of the forest ecosystem. The sound of this bird is a shrill and repetitive call, often heard in the morning and evening.
For bird watchers, the Black-headed Bulbul is a relatively easy species to observe. They are often seen in open areas on the edge of the forest or while foraging on fruiting trees in lowland habitats. This species when foraging sometimes flocks with both the same species and different species.
That's the post about the Black-headed Bulbul species, hopefully you like this post.
