Orange-bellied Flowerpecker | Dicaeum trigonostigma | https://www.inaturalist.org/observations/254283407 |
Orange-bellied Flowerpecker (Dicaeum trigonostigma) is one of the very beautiful and charming small birds in Sumatra. This small bird is a member of the Dicaeidae family which has a body size of around 8-9 cm. This bird stands out because of its bright orange color on its belly which contrasts with the grayish blue feathers on its back and head. This bird is one of the species that makes our tropical forests so alive and colorful.
Orange-bellied Flowerpeckers are usually found in lowland to hilly forests, including gardens and yards that still have dense vegetation. They are very active, often seen jumping between branches, looking for small fruits, nectar, and insects. One of their favorites is cherry fruit, which makes them an important natural seed disperser for regeneration
As a fruit and nectar eater, the Orange-bellied Flowerpecker acts as a pollinator and seed disperser in its ecosystem. They help spread seeds to a wider area, maintaining the biodiversity of plants in tropical forests. With its sharp, high-pitched call, this bird is also an important indicator of biodiversity, as its presence indicates the health of the ecosystem.
