Mangrove Whistler | Pachycephala cinerea | Sabang & Simeulue, Aceh, Sumatra, Indonesia |
The Mangrove Whistler is known as a small bird measuring 17 cm, with feathers that tend to be gray and light brown. Its distinctive sound, a series of soft, repetitive whistles, is one of the clues to its presence for bird watchers. Although its sound is soft, it can be heard quite far and is often the main clue in identifying it.
I found this species when traveling to Sabang and Simeulue which are islands in Aceh, Sumatra, Indonesia. The Mangrove Whistler can be found around mangrove forests and coastal forests. This habitat provides shelter, foraging, and breeding places for this bird. This bird generally forages for food in the form of small insects and other invertebrates around the mangroves. The dense mangroves and shady trees offer an ideal environment for this bird to hide from predators.
Hopefully my posts in this community can provide information about birds in Sumatra.
